When I opened the box I finally realised that it is true. Not just that we designed a custom typeface for one of the biggest clubs in Germany, but also that due to a lack of a sponsor they printed it right on the frontside of the shirt. 💙🤍

Ok, let’s start with a closer look at the
#RealMadrid
font:
1. Contrast/crest
Looks like first the numerals were designed, then noticed that there’s no space for the crest, so bottoms were blown up.
Like you design a car and later weld a sheet metal for the emblem on it.

Besides a strange F and a ridiculously scaled Q, the new

I wasn’t happy with how squarish Winner Sans looks in the thin weights. I started experimenting with corners, but then went on with a concept for a new variable font with 4 axes. Took only 54 masters! 🙃

Rule of thumb: The smaller the font size, the less detail.
The effect works well with the numerals, but the letters become less recognizable. Particularly ridiculous: the accent.
