These circular arrangements, with cells surrounding a central lumen, reflect their inherent drive to mimic the retinal layers they originate from, even in the chaos of a fluid environment. In cytology samples, this fascinating behavior offers clues to the biology of these malignant cells, showcasing their attempt to retain structural organization despite being suspended in vitreous fluid. It’s a reminder of their dual nature: chaotic in growth but tethered to a developmental program.
