Not a coincidence at all. The splat3 countdown art had all the main mascot kids in it and since 8 is the mascot of Octo Expansion, it made since for her to be in it too

I think it’d be cool to have a food Splatfest that’s based on their cultures. Like Shiver would have a Japanese dish, Frye would have an Indian/Middle Eastern dish, and Big Man would have a Brazilian dish.
and what do we do if the November 2023 splatfest is a redo of this theme with Tacos as a third option
