"they're very into just jumping into a topic by reading a list of books about it". was this intended as a dunk lmfao.
one thing i've noticed about silicon valley types is that they have an almost neural net theory of their own learning, they're very into just jumping into a topic by reading a list of books about it.

this is kind of discourse dark matter β people who would or do leave immediately because of infidelity talk about it proudly, but couples who reconcile and forgive after infidelity are ashamed so many aren't aware how common that is.
if ur long term bf/gf cheated (no kids), and was genuinely sorry, would u potentially try to forgive them and work it out?.

I don't doubt that the average prisoner is stupid but I often think of @literalbanana's point that simply answering arbitrary questions from petty authority figures in good faith is not a thing humans like to do.
Spoke with a family member today who works in the prison system and they independently brought up how inmates would nitpick and lose the train of logic if something didnβt match their experience. βOk, imagine you bought cigarettes for $5 and-β. βBut cigarettes donβt cost $5?β

reminded of this iconic post. > I realized that saying that your dream job would be to join a fictional eugenics cult was perhaps not the best idea.
the bene gesserit are the crown jewel of Dune. stroke of genius by frank herbert. fully distilled vision of menβs unconscious psychological model of women and the fears/desires/reverence wrapped up in that.

this has honestly shocked me. I support assisted suicide *in theory*, but in practice uhhhh the state saves money when expensive people die, show me the incentive I'll show you the result π¬ it's enough to make you wonder if the non-organ-donors are right.
@eigenrobot MAID turning out to be the steepest and slipperiest of slopes has made me more understanding of the desire to ban antisocial and anticivilizational behaviors and practices. Chesterton was right.

this drives me CRAZY. look, there's a lot I dislike about Musk's public persona, but the man gets RESULTS. people who've never accomplished anything at a comparable scale pooh-poohing his intellect or operational prowess is maddening. they have no idea how hard it is.
βMusk is an engineering geniusβ.βUgh he doesnβt do any of the real technical workβ.βOk so heβs an incredible executiveβ.βHeβs not really running the showβ.βFine so heβs βjustβ an incredibly skilled investor who also inspires the founders to start and grow their companies?β.

the reason Taylor Lorenz is flipping out about @balajis criticizing her is that she can't actually do anything to him. that's why she's now casting around for a target that she can hit:

@SeloSlav I actually doubt it's most. By volume of subscribers, probably yes. But there's a long tail of girls hustling independently. Which is neither here nor there for the main debate, jussayin.

@villecallio what's bad about it? looks like many entirely mundane and pleasant neighborhoods where families live.

this is so disappointing to hear :( Jesus would invite Aella to the function.
@nicochristie i mean you realize i am a whore, and historically christians have not treated me or people like me well? i've also had christians in tech - ones you probably know - make sure i wasn't allowed into events, specifically because i'm a sex worker.

pro tip for women, ask guys out, do not rely on dudes you wanna date noticing that you're attracted to them.
I was 17, hourly data entry job. She asked me if I wanted to go to a work meeting "with her". I was baffled by this but I went, sat silently next to her the entire time, then returned to my desk. *This year* am old acquaintance asked me if I ever sealed that deal. "what deal?".

it actually is very funny, albeit eyeroll-worthy, to watch the thinkfluencers launder NRx ideas into the intellectual mainstream like "I made this!". so illuminating when I discovered a couple of years ago that all the smart think-tank people read the naughty bloggers you love.
I've just had an amazing original insight. Has anyone considered the possibility that modern Wokeness might be a memetic descendant of Puritanism? . Think about it, there are so many similarities! . White Privilege <--> Original Sin.Lived experience <--> Self Revelation
