My new favorite bug fix

SimpleDebugger can now hook functions to replace them with your own implementation. Just like fishhook but it works for libs in the dyld cache. I use it to force Date objects to a constant time when running tests

In Pacific Palisades, there’s a shirt that reads: “If you’re rich, you live in Beverly Hills. If you’re famous, you live in Malibu. If you’re lucky, you live in Pacific Palisades.” This week many Palisadians, including myself, who’ve lost our homes might not feel very lucky. However, I still hold onto this sentiment - there’s something special about the Palisades. While I can’t return immediately, I can’t imagine calling anywhere else home. I’ll be back and rebuilding as soon as possible, and one day, I’ll feel lucky again.

Google an iOS private framework to see if it had been reverse engineered. Got a gen AI answer that seemed off. Turns out, the source was a medium post I wrote which AI completely misunderstood🤦‍♂️

Changing executable memory to writable with vm_protect doesn’t work if the memory you are trying to change is the vm_protect function itself... luckily implementing the syscall directly isn’t too much code, and now I can hook functions in libsystem_kernel too!
