A thread about something interesting in animation that i don't know how to name ("2D camera flickering issue"?)

This is due to the difference between the framerates of the character animation and the camera motion
My red guy is at 12fps, while the camera moves at 24fps;
Thus, each drawing appears on one frame and then slightly moves on the right for the next frame, just like the bg

That creates this annoying flickering effect;
It can occur whenever an animator animates something moving on a large background first and then programs a camera path to follow it (the animation not being on ones)

So how to avoid this ?
You can choose to animate the character on ones whenever the camera moves, it works but that's time consuming (and sometimes feels weird if the characters usually go with a lower framerate)

Another way is to make the camera motion match the framerate of the animation;
though the result might lack smoothness

⬆️So those two test cuts are done in a different way :
A _ Only the bg is scrolling, character doesn't move
B _ Character moves in the bg, camera follows them
but on the B cut the character shows that jerky disturbing motion :/

You can also choose to animate first and then set the background motion manually to fit the character path (just like the A version); The problem is that it can be really tricky to manage especially if characters interact with the bg 😳

This is very very good actually, I often tend to make perfect inbetween curves and realize that in fact I needed to break it in a weird way like that ahaha

At an internship my lead told me "When animating you shouldn't think about 'intention' and 'accuracy to the model' at the same time, do it separately"
