. I do still wish they got Brad Maule back (even just waiting outside for Angela?). I’ve been thinking a lot about Tony lately and how absolutely integral he was to the show in the early 90s. He was such a good, flawed, character and watching old eps, he was central.

My deep dive into old soap episodes have led me to this conclusion as well - the format for taping in blocks has really destroyed any semblance of continuity and storytelling narratives for both plot and character progression. And if even plot is suffering nowadays, that’s bad.
This who storyline was amazing.
So much better writing back then but the way they tape now is a huge problem. The show feels so disconnected cause they tape scenes for scenes and not for story.

I will just say this: David Vickers will always have a stan in me for life because of this moment. I actively cheered him on watching 94/95 because of this; I hand waved away all the comedic ineptitude that Ron put him through in later years because of this.

I knew Andrea Evans was a big deal the way soap mags would write about her IN the 00s, but watching these 80s eps these last few years has been revelatory for me. Tina, and her relationship with Viki, was one of the best things soaps provided in the 80s I’m convinced of it.

It’s a real “I don’t go here” vibe for me and AMC outside of Leo/Greenlee, but the Tad/Dixie supercut of their story in the leadup to this was pure perfection. That gaslighting story was amazing; cannot recommend it enough. This wedding was *earned*.

It’s weird that the phrase “very important love story” is used here. To me, that always implied social relevance/importance in telling it, like Robin/Stone, Brad/Lucas, even Sprina (though their being interracial isn’t the focus of their story.)

Like, in all honesty, I think Drake did his absolute best acting work under Ron’s pen. I don’t know what it was about the material, and I realize “Drake’s best work” is quite a statement in some circles, but his stuff when Belle wanted to pull the plug on Marlena was excellent.

The top priority (imo) is for The Gates to succeed. And if in the lead-up to that, as the show is being developed, if that awakens some creativity behind the scenes of the other four soaps in terms of black representation, writing, and stories then that's a success too.
