Even if stores did that, sales tax throws everything off. Best is to simply change nothing regarding prices and use 5/4 rounding for the grand total, and even then only need to do it for cash sales. Item+sales tax = $22.97? Call it $22.95. Item + sales tax =$22.98? Call it $23.00. Of course this necessitates ppl being able to understand basic math, and a huge % of population don't, thanks to public school.
