๐ŸŒŸ Mars reaches its maximum northern declination of 26.2ยฐ at 16h UT on 10 February. Those in the northern hemisphere will notice Mars prominently placed in the evening sky. Meanwhile, observers in the southern hemisphere can also spot Mars in the evening, albeit much closer to the horizon. ๐Ÿ”ญ #stargazing

5 Feb: First Quarter Moon at 8:03 UT (about an hour ago). ๐ŸŒ“ The evenings around First Quarter Moon are the best time to view craters and other features on the Moon. A high contrast long focal length Maksutov telescope provides outstanding views of the #Moon and planets. ๐Ÿ”ญ This ๐Ÿ‘‰

๐ŸŒŸ This close-up image of the now "headless" Comet C/2024 G3 (ATLAS) was captured on 31 January 2025. The bright streak is a synchrone -- a region of dust released when the comet's nucleus fragmented around 19 January. Surprisingly the comet was still just barely visible to the eye from the Bortle 2 dark sky site.๐Ÿ”ญ ๐Ÿงช Exp: 19x10s Scope:

Sixty nine million years ago in a galaxy far, far away a star exploded. Known as SN 2025mb the light from the Type Ia supernova eventually reached Earth on 15 January 2025 and was detected by the ATLAS global telescope network. This image was taken on 31 Jan'25 and shows SN 2025mb shining at mag. 14.4V and the host galaxy NGC 150. 8x30s โ€ข Gear details:

A journey to the Dark Sky Reserve near Adelaide turned out to be a wonderful night of stargazing and astronomical imaging. Photos of several recent supernovae in distant galaxies were taken, as well as Comet C/2024 G3. A homemade 14-inch Dobsonian telescope offered stunning views of many deep sky objects in The Southern Milky Way. Definitely a night to remember! ๐Ÿ”ญ #astronomy

This beautiful image of Comet C/2024 G3 (ATLAS) taken on 28 January 2025 from southern Australia also demonstrates the sad reality of the large number of satellites now photo-bombing our astro-images. ๐Ÿ”ญ #astrophotography #astronomy 52 x 10s, ASI533MC Pro, Askar SQA55 Credit: Kym Thalassoudis
