Safe to say that I think
#SawX
is easily one of the best crafted films in the franchise. Without sacrificing any of the key ingredients that make a great SAW film, this new installment delivers a more emotional story than I had anticipated…oh and it’s a bloody good time 🧩

I never thought I’d see people romanticizing Hays Code era Hollywood when (as this thread makes very clear) filmmakers were constantly actively trying to subvert those guidelines. Censorship is the death of art.
a fun thing about all this Hays Code anti-sex talk is that noir got around the guidelines by making the "unseen" lurid subtext as arousing and suggestive as possible. everybody wanted to fuck everybody and probably did and looked at eachother like this.

I use this term quite often but I feel like I should clarify why, especially for those who may read my article in the upcoming Fango… 🧵
(The SAW franchise was never "torture porn" and those movies always had stories underneath all the gore - pretty intricate ones, to boot! It was just something people who didn't really watch the movies and looked down on the horror genre used to say, is all.)
