@naval A few young men, aged 20-30, I’ve spoken with recently see day trading as the way to get rich. I understand it, it’s seductive and has the promise of solving your money problems fast. I’ve pointed them to your wealth podcast with the hope to change that into longer term thinking.

@AutismCapital Yet we are still distinct from the algorithms and can say no. You don't have to watch the show Netflix recommends and can actively search out alternatives. The framing of this is as if we have no choice or control.

@naval I’m going to need to mull this one over. In my experience, approaching learning as fun is far easier and leads to significantly faster skill development. But perhaps education isn’t always about development and entertainment not always fun.

@naval Even with the most basic level of empathy, perpetuating war for profit is unthinkable.

@bitcloud @ZubyMusic It’ll definitely be interesting. I allowed myself to feel hopeless about the future of music for a while, with all of the ai tools starting to emerge. Then I remembered the magic that humans can create by playing an instrument. That’s not going away anytime soon!

@bitcloud @ZubyMusic That’s a fair point. Although it could be described as a tool, using an ai prompt to create a piece of music is less about musicianship and more about how well you can describe what you want the model to produce. Perhaps that’s an art in itself.

@ZubyMusic @bitcloud I keep thinking about this in relation to music creation, as DAWs get more sophisticated. I deliberately do not use preset instruments, samples ,virtual musicians or anything else pre-set. I create, not the software.

@heydave7 It’s more about how we experience the music than the delivery format. When you buy an album be it vinyl, cd, cassette. You live with it, inhabit it, build memories around it. With streaming everything is available all the time so the relationship is more fleeting.

@naval I’ve been thinking about this a lot since I first heard you talk about desire on a podcast. When I refine it down, it always comes back to simply wanting peace.
