PSA: Change in booking process for permits for treks around Karnataka. The old Karnataka Eco-Tourism website is defunct. A new Aranya Vihaara website is to be used to book permits. Please RT so that this news reaches all trekkers who have been struggling with a lack of information. More details in the thread below.

@a_srinidhi i totally agree with you! and i feel like this is a cultural/societal problem and the 17-18 year-olds don't have enough automony to rebel against parents/society most indian parents still think of engineering/medicine as the only viable choice for a "stable" career

@a_srinidhi but what do you do when your parents refuse to pay for tuition for those courses and force you into engineering? i have been mentoring a niece who's a very good visual/fine artist but is working a software job and been struggling at it for 3 years now!

1/ Last week decided to impulsively sign up for a smol trek by @blrhikes. We took a train, built a fire from scratch, cooked spicy ramen, made some s’mores, and watched stars come up at night ✨ Can already tell this is going to be a core memory! Can’t wait to go on another trek already! :)

I am imagining a non car-centric transport system
The volume of car horn is calibrated for driving on the highway with windows up, and not an urban environment But imagine if different roads had different honk volumes You could do this via an RF signal from a device installed on the roads, instructing the car to set a lower honking volume In a quiet gully or a small neighborhood road, the honk could simply be 1/10 of its volume and still serve its purpose
