to all artists accepting commissions: scammers are more and more frequently using commissions as a way to steal your information, and they’re getting more convincing. i just had someone offer to pay me very well to draw them a very detailed set of pieces, and they gave (1/4)
the total amount would be so high, they would only be able to pay via wire transfer and required extensive banking information. they refused to accommodate smaller payments via paypal, etransfer, or other services, so i knew it was a scam and stopped answering. (3/4)
obviously there are red flags like that to look out for, but please be careful out there, because this is becoming way more common and the scammers are learning to be scarily convincing. i’ve heard from tons of other artists who had similar experiences lately, so stay safe! (4/4)
a ton of information about what they wanted, their timeline, and even commercial rights. they acted and sounded like a real potential client, and were incredibly convincing. we legitimately discussed moving forwards on the project, but eventually, they stated that because (3/4)
after a lot of contemplation, i’ve decided to temporarily close my sketch, lineart, and flat colour commissions. now that there are tutorials being regularly circulated on how to commission an artist for a sketch/lineart only to have AI colour and render it, i’m not comfortable
i am officially not in my early twenties anymore, now i really have to get my shit together 💀 honestly, this year has easily been the worst year of my life, and while things aren’t exactly looking up, i’m so deeply grateful for all of you that have been supporting me through it.
these two pieces are two days apart - the first was before i sought out and implemented a critique, and the second was after. fr, i cant overstate the value of solicited critique, i learned so much from this exercise— and now i have to redraw it 15 times for a video 🫠
just lost $500 in ko-fi donations because they didn’t alert me that someone accessed my account that wasn’t me and changed my paypal address to their own, and now they can’t help me and i’m financially fucked -
here's the art from today's video (which is coming, it's just still exporting bc it's a beast), in honor of the new dlc!! you can get it on posters via the link in the replies <3
#ddlc
“why don’t you make more positive videos?” “why don’t you talk about stuff you like more than stuff you hate?” BC Y’ALL DON’T WANNA SEE IT 😭 like im still gonna make stuff i like but c’mon @ everyone dragging me for being negative while watching my negative content twice as much
people will really offer unsolicited critique on anything 🫠 “the character’s arms look too long bc they’re so thin” it’s a drawing of myself based on a reference photo of myself, i just happen to be underweight bc im chronically ill, but thanks for making me even more insecure🙃
local starving artist defeats Big Air Conditioning by creating the ugliest DIY AC unit known to mankind with household objects to survive the heat wave, now more qualified to call herself an engineer than elon musk
also here's the art from today's video, some
@lavendertowne
fanart bc i realized that i still hadn't drawn the person who was one of my biggest channel inspirations and that had to change
until we know for sure whether or not twitter is training its AI on just text or images too, i will no longer be posting art here. if they confirm it, i will also be deleting all previously posted art. i’ll be using twitter exclusively for updates & engaging with the community.
also, here's the art from today's video! an anonymous client commissioned fanart of
@Corpse_Husband
which is hands-down the best commission i've ever gotten because i basically got paid to draw fanart i already wanted to draw lmao
friendly reminder that i do not use my channel to cover personal disputes between artists, as it is never something i’ve felt comfortable involving myself in. emailing my work email (which isn’t monitored by me) angrily demanding i do so is 100% unacceptable & won’t be tolerated.
i made an AI bro so mad by using the word AI bro that they felt the need to contact my business email and it’s the funniest thing that has ever happened to me
just got asked “wait you’re not a girl?” because i posted about my wife, because apparently i can’t be a girl with a wife 🙃 imagine being that heteronormative in the year 2023
i don’t have the words to express what i’m feeling right now. i just got two consecutive donations that pushed my goal to completion, and i’m genuinely just in shock at the moment. a month ago, i was making appointments to sell my blood to pay for my meds.
given the kooleen situation, i thought this might be a good time to have a discussion about the wider issue it represents: artists claiming they “can’t draw POC in their style”, be that erasing ethnic features or lightening skin tones for pastel styles. what do you guys think?
how do you guys feel about “roasting your terrible art” videos? obviously it’s not like those youtubers are giving unsolicited critique or attacking anyone out of nowhere, but i feel like a lot of the time, they market these videos like they’re actually helpful, while really
as one does, i filled our apartment with worms on strings as a romantic gesture. i came back from the bathroom to find that my wife had arranged them to all be staring directly into my soul while i script next week’s video and i felt like y’all needed to see
and here's the art from today's video, alongside the original i was redrawing (it's the first ever art of current celestia, and was in my first video!)!
fun fact: in every single one of my videos, the white background behind everything is actually this image that i made for an old video scaled up to 5000 because i was too lazy to learn how to make a white background in premiere and never stopped even after i did learn
1) proving something couldn’t have taken place at a very specific time is not proving that the thing didn’t happen at all. timeline discrepancies do not disprove the allegations against you, shannon.
and here's the art from today's video, a redraw of one of my older pieces!! idk if i would say my art has necessarily improved all that much, but it's cool to see how much my style has changed and how much more comfortable i am with it now!
tassieulura on instagram was kind enough to commission me to draw them whatever i wanted, just because they wanted to support me through a hard time. i was honestly baffled by that kind of thoughtfulness, so i drew them this thank you - check them out on IG, they make great art!!
given everything in my life right now, today was not a birthday i wanted to celebrate. really, i just kind of wanted to stay in bed and let it pass. but my wife woke me up with this plushie that looks just like my kitty that passed this year, and excuse me im sobbing—
some celestia face studies bc i suck at faces and i decided sitting down and actually using the loomis method might work better than my trademarked “i hate them so i’ll draw them last and rush them” method
with risking a client essentially getting a fully rendered commission from me for a fraction of the price. until i figure out how else to handle this situation, i am now only accepting fully-rendered commissions.
the first chapter of my webcomic, inside, is finally up on webtoon and tapas! it's an incredibly personal, important project for me, and it would mean everything to me if you checked it out!
WEBTOON:
TAPAS:
2) the entire anime community section is effectively based on the argument that “you said i harassed you during this time, but this community harassed you at this time, so i couldn’t have harassed you because apparently only one person or group can do so at a time”, and i should
and here's the art from today's video!! it's the first of eight vocaloid fan album covers that i made for otafest artist alley prints - they're all done, but only patrons and otafest attendees will see all eight before they're all public in videos!
what do you guys think about social media’s impact on artists getting addicted to art? we’re pressured to make/finish as much art as possible to please algorithms & becoming dependent on positive engagement to feel good about our work- do you feel more addicted to it as a result?
3) opening with “emily painted a narrative in which i’m a stalker so that any evidence i present looks like stalking” doesn’t change that you did get that evidence via stalking, nor does it account for the fact that you’ve evidently been keeping tabs on her since long before
what do you guys think about fixing art? is there ever any circumstance in which you think it’s okay or acceptable, other than if the artist requested/consented to it?
i just had to cancel a $600 sponsorship because the sponsor’s program straight-up did not work and marketed itself so ridiculously deceptively, and i’m considering making a video about it. not about them specifically, but about the responsibility of creators
what really gets me angry in this whole AI art shitshow is when writers unapologetically use AI to generate their covers, and then say “well, i can’t afford to hire an artist, and it’s not stolen if it’s made by technology, so fuck off”.
woke up from my nap to see that my wife did the sweetest thing in the world to our living room and im legitimately in tears over it— i’m so lucky to have such an amazing partner, and to celebrate this channel milestone with the person who it wouldn’t have been possible without 😭
update on the ko-fi situation: it is apparently closer to $750 in terms of the number of donations that went to the hacker, and ko-fi’s response was to say “this account was always linked, so that’s why we never alerted you” despite the fact that every previous donation
me: draws a face with anime proportions
audience: it’s incorrect and i need to fix it ASAP
anime: draws faces with exaggerated proportions
audience: that’s Just Style Tho
4) claiming that someone’s public sobriety date always reflects their actual relationship with substance abuse is ableist and false. are you really out here saying that a recovered addict who has publicly shared their sobriety date could never have relapsed or used after it?
how do you guys feel about cringe culture in the art community? why do you think people are so quick to judge and joke about those who like things like furries, self-inserts, sonic, gacha life, and so on? have you dealt with it yourselves?
here's the art from today's video, something very different from my normal subject matter - it's inspired by a display at the metaphysical store in my new building!
what do you guys think about the trend of certain art styles facing more hate than others? obviously people have preferred styles and those they hate, but some in particular, like the calarts style and more recently, the jelly art style, face uniquely more hate.
7) saying you won’t address the lolcow posts because the felony claims are what you’re prioritizing to address doesn’t work if you don’t even address the felony claims. you did not disprove a single felony claim, you just tried to attack emily’s image and credibility to distract
i lost the entire speedpaint for this bc of one procreate misclick, so y’all are getting one old concept art sheet and one merch design for this week’s video, but here’s the redraw i spent all week rushing to finish for the video 🫠
every time i get a comment on a 15-minute video saying “halfway through my brain shut off and i couldn’t pay attention anymore” i am frozen in legitimate fear over what TikTok has done to gen Z’s brains
the Special Project video i've been working on isn't going to be up until next week, but you guys will still get a video today once it's done uploading! here's the art i did in that speedpaint, a commission for
@Maistre_Scarlet
!!
