Twitter is the largest social publishing platform for written content on the internet.
If you want your content to be read, start here.
Don't start a blog.
Treat your writing as a product:
• It needs distribution
• It needs a great reader experience
• It needs iteration, testing, revisions
The fastest-growing Digital Writers think like startup founders.
The 5 essential pieces of an effective headline:
• How many? - “6 Ways“, “7 Reasons“
• What? - What you're giving the reader
• Who? - The type of reader you're writing for
• Feel - The emotion you want to create
• Outcome - The promise of the content
Had an epic digital writing webinar with

In February,
@evielync
decided to sign up for Ship 30.
She'd been meaning to start writing online for 10 years.
In the 10 months since then, she’s shipped more than ever before:
• 5 digital products
• A newsletter
• A podcast
Check out her story:
How to achieve content differentiation:
1. Write down all the things most people would say about your topic.
2. Now, write something without using any of those ideas.
Another inspiring Ship 30 story.
Joe isn’t afraid to hit publish anymore.
After Ship 30 for 30 he had the skills, confidence, and reassurance that:
• He had something to say
• He was headed on the right path
• Someone was finding value in his writing
Life changing!
When he joined Ship 30,
@KarlKaufmanADI
was no writing newbie.
He’d already published 70+ articles for Forbes.
But he lacked a repeatable process for putting out great work consistently.
This is what he learned after shipping 30 for 30:
A reader will decide if you’re interesting enough for a follow within seconds of landing on your profile.
And the fastest way to get your ideal reader interested is by clearly stating what they’ll get in return for following you.
That's why having a clear bio is key.
Do you want more people to read your threads?
Make sure all your hooks answer these 3 questions:
• WHO is this for?
• WHAT is this about?
• WHY should they read this?
If this isn't clear, the reader is gone.
There are 2 types of writers:
1. Legacy Writers:
• Perfectionists
• Little publishing
• Slow feedback loops
2. Digital Writers:
• Practice in public
• Prolific publishing
• Rapid-fire market validation
Which one are you?
Harsh truth:
If your writing isn't skimmable, it isn't readable.
You have to present information in a way that is easy to scan.
Otherwise, you will be ignored.
Turns out, the Ship 30 method works!
@WabiSabiFutures
completed Ship 30, and then started using our content repurposing framework to create her first digital product.
More importantly, she made her first $1 online.
Amazing breakthrough.
Congrats Amanda!
An effective headline always answers 3 questions:
• WHO is this for?
• WHAT is this about?
• WHY should they read it?
Don't try to be clever.
Instead, aim to be clear.
Turns out, the Ship 30 method works!
@milanicreative
is a teacher by day—and top shipper by night!
He went from complete beginner to:
• Tens of millions of readers
• A powerful network on the internet
• More opportunities than he knows what to do with
Great work PJ!
How to write original content:
List all the things you hear most often about your topic:
• Cliché answers
• Common takes
• Conventional wisdom
Then, write something without using any of that.
Most writers suck at writing headlines.
Because they treat them as a fancy bow that goes on the present.
Here's what your headline really is (and why it's a big deal to get it right):
The biggest mistake you will make as a writer:
Trying to create something for everyone.
If you try to write something for everyone, you'll end up creating something no one is interested in.
Want to get more engagement on your next thread?
Write each tweet of the thread in such a way that it can stand on its own.
That way, readers are more likely to also share tweets from the "body" instead of just the first one.
Another Ship 30 win.
@ren_saguil
is an amazing example of how writing online scales your influence.
• Ren started writing daily
• CEOs & sales leaders took notice
• They hired her as a consultant / coach
• Those contacts spawned new opportunity
True marketing shortcut.
Here’s a beautiful writing rhythm: 1/3/1.
The first sentence is your opener.
The second clarifies your opener. The third one reinforces the point. The fourth one rounds out your argument.
Then in the fifth sentence, you close with a strong conclusion.

Your headline should always make it obvious who you're writing for.
Your audience should be able to say:
• “This is EXACTLY for me“
OR
• “This is NOT for me“
Force a binary decision from your reader.
Another massive win for a Ship30 member.
@joecrocker27
not only successfully completed Ship 30, but leveraged his learnings into his first digital product.
He pinpointed his niche and started making money online by selling his unique insights, perspectives, and information.
18 months ago,
@Craig_oNEWord
was lurking and uninspired.
For his entire life, he had wanted to get his stories out into the world.
Fast forward to today: he's published 80+ Atomic Essays.
This is how we went from lifelong lurker to prolific writer:
Don't try to write for millions of people.
Instead, write for a niche audience. Answer a specific question. Help them solve a specific problem.
In the short-term, you might reach fewer people.
But in the long-term, you'll build a high-affinity audience.
Another big Ship 30 win:
@michaelgoitein
was struggling to find his niche.
Until he joined Ship 30 for 30, started writing online, and realized his niche was staring him right in the face all along.
Now, he's gone from "hired worker" to potential clients reaching out to HIM.
