@haterdiaries @baod_rate @lyozha @ianthenaberius no, there is no active movement against “bright colors”, but there is nuance to authoritarian regimes slowly pushing conformity onto masses through corporate means, which is what the op was getting at (hence the thrifting bit)

@baod_rate @lyozha @ianthenaberius actually, yes 😭 white men in the 1970s hated disco (bc of its connection to marginalized communities) so much that they burned disco music. in turn, the fashion and styles of these communities were used as acts of rebellion against the hatred

@mercurydvst @maeveaura @ianthenaberius actually, tiktok op did make videos about marching and other forms of protest! in the south (where op is from) there aren’t really many marches nearby that are easily accessible, so i think they wanted to highlight smaller ways to protest in your community :)

@joeychillsII @ianthenaberius right, there’s no ‘easy’ form of protest, but there are forms that are more accessible to people who don’t live in cities where marches are right outside their door, and people who are physically disabled and unable to march. small protests are better than none at all!!

@Psyffee @genderfuckdoom @ianthenaberius bright colors tend to be restricted in regimes like russia and north korea, so the point they were trying to make is to resist conformity (which is a form of oppression in said regimes) through use of color and fashion

@ATwinspark @ianthenaberius fashion has actually been used as a form of protest quite a bit in history! women wearing pants, disco demolition, harlem renaissance, etc. bright colors are also restricted in regimes like russia and north korea, so its about nonconformity and resistance through use of color :)

@baod_rate @lyozha @ianthenaberius fashion has been used as resistance quite a bit in history actually! women wearing pants, disco demolition, harlem renaissance, etc. it’s a small form of protest, but a protest nonetheless. also, it’s resisting conformity especially in the south where modesty culture is big
