I love the Civil Service. I never felt more proud telling people what I did for a living in the 10 years I was part of it. But dross like this harms the reputation of so many who work tirelessly to deliver the government of the day's agenda, whatever their own political views.
Just looking at pictures of beautiful Chuba whilst reminiscing of a time when people were begging the club to spaff €12m on this guy 🔴⚪️🔴

🚨 Just finished my final day at
@DefenceHQ
after nearly three years working alongside some of the most brilliantly talented people in government comms. From next week, I'm joining Number 10 as a Deputy Head of News. Really looking forward to getting stuck in 🚨
@HCH_Hill
Sat in hundreds of sentencing hearings over many years as a court reporter... this clip looks entirely the same as any other I've witnessed without cameras being present
🚨JOB OPPORTUNITY🚨
I'll be leaving the
@cabinetofficeuk
at the end of August and I'm thrilled to be joining
@British_Airways
as its Head of Media Relations.
My current role is therefore up for grabs.
Full details on the Civil Service jobs site 👇🏼 or give me a shout
For all the doyles calling for Steve Gibson to go, I present to you 65 million reasons why we would be in a world of pain if he did. Tough at the minute. Some poor decisions. But we have to stay with it 🔴⚪️🔴

I can think of no more than a handful of players from my 30+ years of supporting
@Boro
that would run through a brick wall for the club.
George is one of them.
There's a lot to be said for unflinching loyalty in an age of Gestedes and Ayalas.
Thanks for everything, George.
🚨NEW JOB🚨 After a brilliant couple of years as Deputy Head of News
@10DowningStreet
, I have moved over to
@cabinetofficeuk
as the new Head of News & External Affairs. Delighted to have been given the opportunity to lead a really talented team at such an important time.
Offloaded the likes of Rudy, Britt and Fleth, saving us a fortune and breaking up alleged toxic cliques in the squad.
Dragged us from the jaws of inevitable relegation that would have had catastrophic and long-lasting consequences for our club and town.
Thank you, Neil.
The commentator on Sky just said: "Well it does look as though Middlesbrough are heading for defeat."
It's the 84th minute and we're 0-5 down.
No shit.

TEESSIDERS! Nearly three years ago, my Dad opened his own bakery in the centre of Darlington, having put everything he had into getting a business off the ground. Long days, 4am starts six days a week, it's been a real slog.
Full credit to Woodgate. He switched it up to a 4-4-2 when we went 1-0 down and it looked far more balanced. He takes his fair share of stick, but tonight he got it right and that change got us over the line 👏🏻

If you're out and about in
#darlington
today, pop into my Dad's little bakery, which opened this morning for the first time in over two months. He wasn't sure he would ever open again, so it's brilliant that there are small businesses out there that have been able to hang on.
Some of the
@Boro
fan comments on Morgan Rogers are genuinely toe-curling. He's getting rinsed by the keyboard melons because he's reportedly said he'd be excited by the opportunity to join Villa. I mean who bloody-well wouldn't be? We all want to better ourselves, don't we?
Nadhim was a brilliant Minister to work for. Calm. Detailed. Two qualities that set the tone for how we managed the funeral commemorations for Queen Elizabeth II.
But perhaps above all else, he was kind towards those advising and supporting him.
Good luck and thanks, Nadhim.
At the beach. There's a middle-aged bloke playing cricket with his wife and kids and he is absolutely schooling them. Smashing them all over the shop. Commentary and everything. Like Mr Sugden in Kes.
Being a single parent can be tough, especially given current circumstances. But last night before bed, my four-year-old girl squeezed me in for a cuddle and, completely out of the blue, said:
"Daddy, you're my superhero. You're my Thor."
And I've had a smile on my face since.
On the rattler back to the South but still buzzing after that
@Boro
result. Amazing day. Really emotional moment when the teams emerged and the crowd erupted 👌🏼 Thanks for the invite

Today I'll referee a football match for the very first time. Checked and double checked kit and equipment. Watches work. Pencil sharpened. Here we go 😬
When I dropped my children back with their Mum this evening, my beautiful five-year-old girl leaned across, gave me a big kiss and said she had left something for me in the kitchen. This is what I found when I returned home. How do they just know when you need boost? 😢♥️👨👧👦
Just talked to my old man. Electricity bill in his small bakery in

up from £76 a week to £340 from October. Sack of flour doubled this year from £7 to £14. A tiny business. Puts the price of pastry products up by between 10p and 20p and trade drops off. Unsustainable.
I'm not even kidding, that Browne tackle is absolutely screaming 'few days off for Xmas'. I'd have him and McNair bleep testing every day in flip-flops. Absolutely disgraceful. These jokers are meant to be professionals. Woodgate not at fault whatsoever.
In comms you can never please everyone. But personally I'd have gone with:
We are iron and steel.
We are never easily defeated.
We are explorers and discoverers.
We are entertainers.
We are shipbuilders.
We are Erimus.
We are innovators.
We are Ironopolis.
Bringing my two kids back up to Middlesbrough in just over a week. They're six and four. Tips welcome for fun places to take them! Got Whitby and Yarm on the list already, and Redcar for a lemon top. Fortress Riverside too, obvs. Hit me!
I've loved my ⚽️ refereeing experience in the eight months I've been doing it but there's something from a game I did recently that stuck in my mind and made me wonder if respect for match officials will ever be achieved across the amateur game 🧵👇🏼

Your job as a civil servant is to enact the policies of His Majesty's government, not whine in newspaper articles under the veil on anonymity. I don't deny there were challenges; but the Civil Service way is to challenge and address them privately.
Bridges represent some of the greatest achievements of human engineering and architecture. Here are 12 of the most extraordinary:
1. Millau Viaduct, France (2004) - the world's tallest bridge.
My eight-year-old daughter just asked me what a dating app is.
I mumbled something about adults talking to each other to see if they want to go out.
Her:
"Well if you want a girlfriend you should cut your toenails and try to not sweat so much."

Only got orange and strawberry Quality Street chocolates left in the tin 😩 If you think I'm the type of person to sit on the sofa all night and shovel them into my mouth, then you're absolutely right 🎯
After 20-odd years of backchatting referees, questioning every decision and picking up way more than my fair share of reds for badly-judged tackles, I'm going to take some of my own medicine and see if I'm up to it. REF-ER-EEEE! 🟥🟨
Great being back at
@DerbyUni
yesterday to talk to
@DerbyJourno
students about my career. Really impressive group of well-informed and inquisitive people. And lots of brilliantly searching questions. The future of journalism and PR/comms is in safe hands!
A massive thank you to

I fell in love with
@Boro
as a young boy on the back of us bringing the likes of Juninho, Ravanelli, Emerson, Barmby and, latterly, Merson to The Riverside.
Lamb made all those deals happen.
And he oversaw our most successful period as a club.
Thank you, Keith 🔴⚪️🔴

Well, that was fun. Hit by the ball once. Forgot to start my watch for the second half 🥴 No cards issued but one or two strong words for backchat. Under 12s match tomorrow, let's see if the parents behave!

Aged 18 I rear-ended a police car in my Fiat Punto, woke up shirtless in the front garden of my parents' house after a night out, and needed several stitches after slicing open my hand trying to separate frozen sausages using a bread knife.
Perspective.

trial is ANOTHER great UK vaccine success story. Global scientific collaboration. UK govt support. Made in Teesside. Thank you to everyone working on it.
Our vaccine strategy is working.
It was about as close to a tackle as Craig Forsyth will get to Isaiah Jones (a-ha) at The Riverside next month.
The lazy narrative that Steve Gibson is the villain of the piece is wearing a little thin when the actual protagonist (as
@GNev2
rightly observes) is Mel Morris.
Gary Neville has just absolutely clattered Middlesbrough on Sky Sports News
If that was a tackle, Steve Gibson would be over the advertising hoardings and in row B.
Thank you 🙏

I'm not saying a week on my own with the kids has had an effect on me, but earlier I told my 9-year-old son I was going to drop his PS5 from bedroom window if he continued to refuse to teach me how to do a lobbed through-ball on FIFA23 🥴
What's unbelievable is the number of armchair professional centre backs on here saying Fry should have cleared it 🤯 Wing should have tracked the full back to prevent the cross. End of.
Well my daughter woke me up at 3.15am and called me to her bedroom to ask me what number comes after three billion and ten but apart from that I slept GREAT 🤯😭
I've been sending my Spurs-supporting mate voice notes of me singing 🎵OH WILDER SAID 🎵 at random intervals (14 so far) and although he's not replying, I take great satisfaction in the WhatsApp function informing me he's played every single one of them 😂🔴⚪️🔴

Definitely had a degree of self-consciousness about my accent at work. Even tweaked it at times over a personal (and actually unfounded) fear that the quality of my advice may be questioned. Would love to see more north-eastern accents in Cent Govt tho!
Ukrainian refugee kids arrive in Italy, and start at local schools. On their first day they enter nervously. You won’t believe what the Italian kids did next …
Four kids aged 6-8 and me on my own to a Premier League football match today. Many interested observers have said it can't be done. We're about to find out 💪🏼

Proud Dad moment last night at the little fella's football presentation.
Henfield FC under 8s top goalscorer for 2021/22 with 44 goals.
Don't think I bagged 44 in the whole time I played 🥴⚽️🔥
If you aren't currently crying whilst watching the Greatest Showman and thinking about running away and joining the circus to avoid going back to work tomorrow then my only question is why not?
Buzzing for Woodgate. I just really hope the bean counters in the club aren't looking at the last couple of games as evidence that we have enough to stay up. Squad badly needs some reinforcement. Get it done.
... the irony of course being that the Eiffel Tower was built by a man who had put in place a sustainable funding model and huge personal funds to secure the longevity of the project, at no cost or risk to anyone but himself.
So perhaps not the best comparison, Jimmy.
Derby County is older than the Eiffel Tower 🗼
Are we really going to let all of that go to the wall because Middlesbrough lost 8 of their last 12 games in 2019?
C’mon

it’s time to start making some tough calls …

- simple idea executed brilliantly which helps fans connect with a key member of the squad that I suspect will be with us for some time to come. More please! And well done
