Yep, I want to live in a cohesive community but focusing on 'more social contact' doesn't fix racism or austerity and risks exonerating govt/s from their active promotion of both.
The British establishment is promoting ‘community cohesion’ projects as a solution to racist street violence — conveniently ignoring their role in enabling the rise of the far right, writes @shabnabegum.

'Community cohesion' approaches offer palatable 'solutions' but they downplay racism and austerity and often blame the very people who have been victimised by this summer's brutal violence.

From beginning, the inquiry refused to investigate racial discrimination; this omission explains why it does not report on structural racism or understand the incentives/insensitivities of why w/class, people of colour are more likely to live in housing that's not fit for purpose

As we said this summer, prisons (and now exclusions) do not fix the problem of racism. Addressing structural racism and the material inequalities it imposes is critical. @bphillipsonMP must make anti-racism an education priority and support school communities.
