We can talk about lack of anti-BJP unity, anti-incumbency, money & voter lists, but consider another long-term factor: organising. This is what ensures that the BJP's own voteshare never dips below a certain level & an ideological cadre that never stops spreading poison + the illusion of listening to the voter.

The Supreme Court's interim order dated Feb 3rd 2025 on various PILs challenging the Forest (Conservation) Amendment Act, 2023 that had been bulldozed through Parliament is welcome. The next date of hearing is March 4th, 2025. The Supreme Court has directed that, until further orders, no additional steps should be taken by the Govt of India or by the states that will lead to a reduction of the forest land unless compensatory land is provided for purpose of afforestation. However, the issue is even more basic. Compensatory afforestation is NO substitute for the loss of biodiverse natural forests. It is an easy way out but should be resorted to only in the rarest of rare cases. Presently, it has become routine which is disastrous. Hundreds of people from various walks to life visited CM's Residence last night to wish HCM Dr. @himantabiswa a Happy Birthday and share moments of joy with him. HCM thanked them for their warm wishes and outlined how he intends to spend the day dedicated to public service.
