✈️✈️Over the past two decades, @OIC_OCI countries have made notable progress in air transportation, significantly enhancing their capacity to move people and goods by air. In 2021, OIC countries carried 1️⃣1️⃣% of the world's passengers and nearly 2️⃣2️⃣% of global freight, highlighting their growing role in international air transport. This is a significant improvement from 2000 when OIC countries accounted for only 6.5% of global passenger travel and 6.7% of global freight transport. SESRIC welcomed a group of participants from YTB’s Turkish Language Program for Public Officials and Academicians (KATİP - @katip_ytb), composed of mid-career professionals from public institutions of member countries, to its headquarters. They received a presentation on the OIC and the activities of SESRIC in #statistics, #research, and #training and technical #cooperation.

A group of Nigerian students visited SESRIC headquarters. During the visit, they gained insights into @OIC_OCI and SESRIC’s activities in its mandated areas of #statistics, #research, and #training to support socio-economic development across OIC countries. They were also introduced to the SESRIC Emerging Talents Capacity Building Programme (SET-CAB), which provides young professionals from OIC member countries with a unique opportunity to develop their skills and gain hands-on experience in an international organisation setting. At SESRIC, we are always pleased to engage with young minds. We regularly welcome students from various universities and associations, offering them the opportunity to explore our initiatives and learn about our efforts to foster cooperation and development among OIC countries.

His insightful address on "Türkiye as a Member of the OIC" emphasized, among others: 🔹 Türkiye’s emphasis on strengthening OIC cooperation and solidarity. 🔹 The role of intra-OIC collaboration in tackling global and regional challenges. 🔹 Türkiye’s commitment to the Palestinian cause, the raison d'être of the OIC. 🔹 Efforts to combat Islamophobia and protect Muslim minorities worldwide. 🔹 Expanding cooperation within the OIC across key areas, including agriculture, trade, economy, culture, science and human rights. 🔹 Türkiye’s efforts in providing humanitarian aid and reinforcing global relief efforts. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) flows to the @OIC_OCI countries reached around $1️⃣7️⃣0️⃣ billion in 2022, accounting for a decade-high of over 1️⃣2️⃣% of global FDI flows. In 2023, OIC economies maintained their strong position, attracting $1️⃣5️⃣0️⃣ billion in FDI and securing over 1️⃣1️⃣% of global inflows. Despite global economic challenges, member countries continue to demonstrate resilience in attracting investment.

H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK addressed the Sustainable Tourism Forum in Karachi, Pakistan 🇵🇰, highlighting the immense potential of @OIC_OCI countries in sustainable tourism. 🔹 With over 230 UNESCO World Heritage sites, a rich cultural heritage, and abundant natural resources, OIC countries are well-positioned to lead in this sector. 🔹 In 2022, 224 million international tourists visited OIC countries, accounting for around 15% of global tourism. Tourism receipts surged to $257 billion, representing over 20% of the global total. H.E. SELÇUK also outlined SESRIC’s efforts to advance sustainable tourism through research and strategic roadmaps, capacity-building initiatives, support for SMEs, and public-private partnerships. To date, SESRIC has organised around 40 activities under its Tourism-CaB Programme, bringing together nearly 2,000 participants from member countries. 📍 2027 will mark a milestone for Pakistan, as Lahore was selected as the OIC City of Tourism for this year.

H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK met with H.E. Mr Alpha Bacar BARRY (@AbbBarry), Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation of the Republic of Guinea, and Board Member of SESRIC, on the sidelines of the 48th Meeting of the Board of Directors of @SESRIC. During the 48th Meeting of the Board of Directors (BoD) of SESRIC convened on 23-24 January 2025, all BoD members supported the right cause of #Palestine and unanimously elected Palestine to be the Chair of the BoD of SESRIC for the term 2025-2028. We thank our 9 BoD member countries representing 3 regional groups of @OIC_OCI.

Over the past decade, global #biodiversity has shown a downward trend, as indicated by the Red List Index (RLI). An RLI value of "1" means all species are safe (i.e., not expected to become extinct in the near future), and "0" means all are extinct. The global RLI has dropped from 0.76 in 2014 to 0.72 in 2024. In comparison, the #OIC average has kept a stable RLI of around 0.9. The loss of biodiversity would be catastrophic, as it provides essential ecosystem services vital for human well-being. #BiologicalDiversity #Environment
