What better way to kick off

than with a published story? 🪦

Just received an email confirming that one of my short stories has been accepted for publication in an anthology in the U.S.A.! What a nice start to the day! 😊
Woke up to a pass on my full manuscript. Email said it came down to the wire, that it had a great Neil Gaiman vibe, and to keep up the great work.
Onward and upward.😅
Woke up to a wonderful email saying my short story has been accepted for an anthology! So exciting!🤪 Brilliant people to work with, too, which is MOST important!

Followed back two people today. Within 5 minutes both of them DM'd me with the usual request to read and review their book. Don't do this, people. It's not an appropriate greeting.☹️
Saw this on an 'abandoned buildings' Facebook site, apparently taken in an abandoned mansion. Has to be one of the most fascinating

I've been sitting on this news, but I'm thrilled to announce that my horror story, entitled Mosaic, is to be published in the June 2021 edition of

Horizons Journal.
What's more, my husband's accompanying artwork will adorn the cover, so it's a double whammy!😊
If anyone's not seen the film The Lighthouse (psychological horror with Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe) you're missing out.
Best film I've seen in quite some time.
I can officially announce that my dark fantasy novel, The Wolf and the Favor, is complete and was sent to beta readers five minutes ago! Shit! I have no wine in the house!

In Welsh, the word for November is Tachwedd, meaning slaughter. The slaughtering of livestock in preparation for winter would begin on Nov 1st, following All Hallows' Eve (Nos Calan Gaeaf). 🏴

Dear friends, please help me celebrate.🙏
I'm so grateful for all the support from well-wishers, ARC readers, those of you who have bought the novel, and of course
@nosetouchpress
for publishing my Gothic tale.🖤
OMG, I've only just discovered that Daphne du Maurier wrote the original short story, The Birds, that was loosely adapted in the Hitchcock movie.
Where have I been until now???😲
First of all, I apologize wholeheartedly for the vague tweet as I hate vague tweets myself. That said, I've just found out something so utterly shocking that I'm reeling. It will undoubtedly come to light very soon. So why am I writing this? I'm writing it as a warning...

I paid for a full year at the end of Nov, but by introducing ads you've changed your terms and conditions. If I cancel, will I get a refund?

Received a fab short story acceptance today.😃One of my quirkiest stories, to one of my favourite publishers. It's a story that's held a special place in my heart since it was conceived. 💖More details when allowed.
Received some devastating news today that a male cousin of mine has committed suicide. Honestly, If you knew him and the life he led you would NEVER have thought it.
Mental health matters!🖤

Give it your best shot!

It's my birthday, and since the sun is shining I'm off to the beach.
A bittersweet day, because my wonderful mother died on my birthday. I'll sit on the clifftop, listening to the waves break and the gulls cry in her honor. She loved the seaside.💕
#life
is glorious!
OMG! I've just written about a crow tapping its beak against a window, then heard a noise. Turned round to see a freaking magpie tapping on my window, three feet from where I'm sitting. No word of a lie! Slightly freaked out here!😨
My husband rarely submits his work anywhere; he's just not good at putting himself out there. A couple of months ago I nagged him to submit a certain piece of art/photography to a literary journal call, and today he got an email to say it's been accepted. I'm so thrilled!🥰
Can we please boost authors, particularly women, who started their career late in life?
The demands of teaching full time meant I didn't publish my first until 2019. There's no such thing as 'too late.'
Can we please boost horror authors, particularly women, who started their horror writing career late in life? My debut came out in 2016, when I was 56!
This is that book, the start of it all, and I'm now drafting my 12th book 🔥

It's St David's Day in Wales, so here's a pic of me sitting on a dragon's egg at the town castle.🏴
If it hatches, I'm in trouble.😄
Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus! (Happy St.David's Day!)
Writer's tip: If you struggle to come up with names for your characters, take a stroll through an old cemetery, armed with a notebook.
Works well for me! 😄
IT'S LAUNCH DAY FOR MOSAIC!

🚨 AUTHOR SIGNING 🚨
Catherine McCarthy, author of dark tales IMMORTELLE, MOSAIC, A MOONLIT PATH OF MADNESS, THE WOLF AND THE FAVOUR, and THE HOUSE AT THE END OF LACELEAN STREET, is joining Sobelo Books for a beautifully dark speculative fiction novel about death and rebirth.
I was absent yesterday, so didn't get to announce this.
I am beyond thrilled that my Welsh folktale, The Sickle and the Tithe, will appear in
@nosetouchpress
anthology, The Fiends in the Furrows 111 in 2023.
Truly overwhelmed and thankful!🙏🖤
People who think horror novels are unrealistic should know that I once opened my back door and discovered not one but three dead crows on the patio. And before you ask, I've never owned a cat.😅
Cover reveal!😊
Mists and Megaliths, a collection of supernatural tales set in my home country of Wales.
Release date April 2021.

Just received a personal message from an ex-pupil of mine, thanking me for being his best teacher ever, and telling me that he got A grades in English GCSE's!
It's the little things, right?🥲
It's our wedding anniversary today (one of those big ones ending in zero🥂), so we're going down to the beach later to chill and make new memories. We're not the partying type...it's the simple things in life that matter, but he's my world!💕
Contract signed!
Thrilled to announce my short story, Sanctuary, will appear in
@BrigidsGate
’s Daughter of Sarpedon Anthology, tales of Medusa.
So grateful to
@womanofsalt
and
@diovassallo
for choosing it, and I've already noticed some wonderful TOC buddies.😍
After seeing someone's book haul, consisting 100% of male authors, I thought I'd look at the books I've read this year and check my own ratio.
Pleased to discover a balance of 26:29, men to women writers.😀
It's not something I do consciously; perhaps I should.

No one...and I mean no one in the 'real world' ever asks about my writing, so when the bloke who works in the gym asked me about my forthcoming novel today I drew a blank.😅For several seconds I couldn't even remember the MC's name.😂
Received THE BEST news today...my dad's CT scan results and other tests are clear. He has osteoarthritis and a spinal fracture, but nothing more sinister. Such a relief! It's been a stressful few weeks.😅
Thanks to everyone who wished him well.💕
See those two little words right there? Yep, I just typed them.😁
A Moonlit Path of Madness currently stands at just over 79k. Let's see where it ends up.

*VAGUE TWEET ALERT!*
I received a VERY exciting email this morning. More info when I'm allowed. Tonight, I will celebrate with a Taffy Apple Cider, brewed in Wales.😁
I haven't seen my brother in almost 4 years (he lives in the US and I'm UK), but he's coming to me for the weekend and I can't wait! He's bringing my old dad, too. It'll be an emotional weekend for sure, as it's Dad's birthday and the anniversary of my mum's funeral. 🥹
No matter how well you think you know someone on social media, no matter how good a relationship you think you have, DO NOT give out your home address!
Please take my advice, and also, be considerate and don't ask for people's home address either. I know it's difficult...
Dear Readers,
Please don't stress over wordy or lengthy reviews. A simple statement can brighten an author's day, as this review for Mosaic just did. You are appreciated, no matter what.🙏🖤
Dear friends and readers, my forthcoming novel has just been added to Goodreads, and I would LOVE you to read the blurb then add it to your TBR.😀
Retweets gratefully accepted!🙏

I've not written a single word this weekend, but I've sent out two novel submissions, edited 6 chapters and featured on a podcast. That counts, right? There's more to this business than meets the eye.😅
Nos alegra comunicaros que

Am I the only one mad (or sad) enough to be writing today?😅Hadn't intended to, but my characters (a cobbler and a golem) kept calling me!
Just a few paragraphs, I promise!
Too cold to walk far today, but we visited one of our favorite churches, St David's Manordeifi, which is looked after by the charity
@friendschurches
who do a fantastic job with these historic buildings.
The day we moved into our 200 year old farmhouse, the previous owner handed me this tin. The contents had been uncovered during renovation, the bird skeleton built into the wall. Apparently, people did this long ago to protect from demons and witches.

The most difficult thing about writing a novel or novella for me is to restrain myself from the distraction of writing shorts for sub calls at the same time.😭
