i’ve had this in my files for awhile already but i got reminded of this phenomenon tonight and it just. makes me laugh every time.
ppl’s online portfolios be like.png
"Overpaying" artists who undercharge is actually what will enable them to raise their prices to what they should be! If someone's charging $30 and you think they should be charging $100, just send $100. You don't have even ask them, just do it.
I always love the art thievery excuse of "I didn't know it was your art" bc it means nothing. oh? you didn't know it was my art? did you think it was......... yours?
Remember that the smaller the fat posi art is, the fewer people can feel included by it.
A smallish person with stretch marks on their hips can feel validated by art of someone bigger than them, but a fat person doesn't get that from "squishy" art that's smaller than them.
I KNOW it's petty and also not always realistic, but I have had a policy for years where I raised my commission prices every time ppl complained about them. and I really do recommend this practice
Highkey it makes me very uncomfortable when people praise me for drawing fat/plus size/thicc bodies when the specific body in question looks something like this
I don't know what I like more- the direct 1-1 trace, the big fat signature in the corner, or the "wow I worked sooo hard on this it took me all day" smh
Pls I need plus size girls to be able to complain for a second about a lack of an affordable selection for plus size clothes without 50 people being like "have you ever heard of torrid? :))"
I can talk to artists all I want but YOU CUSTOMERS NEED TO HEAR THIS TOO!!! If someone is undercharging for a commission, TIP THEM. TIP. THEM. Don't take advantage of them undervaluing their art.
Literally if you wanna make someone's day, you gotta hit up one of the nice folks who are undercharging their commissions. Buy a $10 commission and send them $50. They will remember you for the rest of their life.
Also I shouldn't have to say this because it's so obvious: there's nothing weird about tracing a piece on your own time, follow the flow of the art, and then keep it to yourself. There's nothing wrong with doing studies where you copy from sight and not from tracing. However.
If you're a chubby or fat artist who finds yourself drawing only thin people, it's worth it to take a second and think about why, and how it impacts your feelings on your own appearance
This vexes and haunts me SO much that I took a minute to illustrate this phenomenon. I really wish that clothing companies would stop pranking me hjsdhgdjh
That's so clearly very much not what this is lol. This was just tracing and claiming as your own in the hopes of getting compliments from facebook friends. It's easy enough to say "I traced this piece" and link it, or even better, to NOT post it.
Skinny people aren't owed skinny representation in spaces that fat ppl make for themselves. If you want to feel validated, just look at ANY other form of media, ever.
There's nothing more worthless than a customer going "your art's so good, you should be charging way more!!" and then they go ahead and pay the $30 asking fee, no tip
Stop being vague when you complain. I don't want anyone to ever come on here and complain about "antis" ever again, I want you to make the full sentence, say what word is supposed to come after "anti". It's usually pedophilia.
I promised I'd dress as Gandalf Big Naturals before my breast reduction, and true to my word, here are the pics I took literally the day before surgery LMAO
Consistently getting paid more than the asking price for a commission is what's going to give an artist the confidence to raise their prices For Real, because they already know that people think their work is worth that much
the only thrift store disc horse I TRULY fuck w is:
I think that skinny people taking the few good plus size garments and altering them to fit their small frames, w before/after photos where they mockingly show how Oversized the garments are... go to hell no matter what
@ZAUZIEL
thank GOD for those brave soldiers teaching the youth how to draw the most difficult and underrepresented body type in art... Hourglass Girl W Thigh Gap.
I still think about a client who ordered a $150 commission and paid me $300 lmao.
It was for a floral portrait like the self ports I'd done, and after that I was like, huh yeah, maybe the time I put into those IS worth that much!!
