Anyone else hear
@RishiSunak
say “Adults who can’t understand basic maths should be embarrassed…” ?
What about those with Dyscalculia or other SEND that impact on maths ..should they be embarrassed?
(Or in fact anyone who finds maths difficult?!)
Don’t usually rant on here but seen a post where a teacher is worried about a non verbal autistic child not wearing their coat at break. Someone suggested putting it on backwards & zipping it up backwards. Unless I’ve misunderstood what they meant..this sounds awful… 1/2
I’m struggling with this IG post. I’d argue parents aren’t desperately trying to label their children with SEND, but in fact trying to understand their children and get the support their children need. Which is surely a good thing?!
Anyone else?
🧵 We might not want to admit this/this might be controversial..but I do wonder if OUR screen time as a generation of parents is more damaging for children’s development (speech and Lang for example) than children’s own screen time…

My 6 year old had a ‘scavenger hunt’ on Microsoft teams today with his class. He had to find something that made him happy to show on the screen....and he went and found his sister 🥰 and put her on the screen.
"In our country, no child should be left behind," Rishi Sunak has said. Great!
In which case wouldn’t prioritising support for children & young people with SEND be a better option than talking about replacing A levels with a new Advanced British Standard?
It can be REALLY tough seeing all the social media posts of all the wonderful things parents are doing with their kids this summer, so for balance.. today we sat in the rain under a gazebo, I put the washing away and did some online banking..you?

My Summer Maths Adventure for ages 4-11. Free to all children with love from us ❤️❤️ Open from today
Proud that in the first lockdown when schools closed, we went free to 500,000 children who registered, to help them through that awful time

Here’s your reminder to avoid Facebook over the Xmas hols!!
We’ve had a lovely Christmas, but 20 mins on Facebook would make me think otherwise as I clearly forgot 🤪to buy matching pjs, take the kids to Lapland, go ice skating and fit in a cocktail night with my friends! 😝

For anyone questioning their parenting ability. I’m a qualified teacher, published parenting author & mum of 2 and last night I bribed my child to sleep through the night with the promise of a toy koala.
Anyone else think Bluey is actually a parenting class disguised as a childrens TV programme? I swear I’ve picked up so many parenting strategies 🤣 What has it taught you?

I keep reading about kids needing to ‘catch up’ on education after all this. I think they need to enjoy catching up (in the social sense) with their friends and grandparents more!

My primary school teacher from when I was little wrote a review of my book on Amazon this week…it was lovely and made me cry. Turns out you’re never too old for teacher feedback!
A real privilege yesterday to be able to speak my mind on Sky News about how the SEND System is letting children down . I *might* have told them how our current SEND system isn’t fit for purpose (due to lack of special school places, lack of…
Huge thank you to Channel 5 News this evening for letting me speak about the delays in autism assessments for children and in particular the impact on autistic girls.
Hope I did this important topic justice.
Can you give me examples of ‘unwritten rules’ for kids in social situations at school. Particularly thinking about those ‘rules’ that might be harder for some neurodivergent kids to pick up on. Thanks!
So happy. Signed a contract with the brilliant

Imagine your a kid who’s working as hard as you can with school work during the pandemic. And you hear rumours that after all this ...your summer holidays might be shortened (and you hear it from the same people who say they are worried about you and your peers mental health)
I’m being interviewed on the news tomorrow (whoop!) about the benefits of dance for children with Special Educational Needs. I’ve lots of answers and ideas to say but wanted to hear from you lot too. What benefits do you think there are to dance for children with SEN?

Some news really hit me hard today.
In December I was hospitalised. I met a wonderful person on my ward. We both had a CT scan. I needed emergency surgery & was told I would be better in 4-6 weeks. She was given a terminal diagnosis. Found out that she died today.
Please help me spread far and wide again!
Starting THIS week! I’ll be recording and sharing FREE videos again (like I did in March) of home learning activities for primary level kids on my YouTube channel
Here’s the link to the 31 videos I made in March
Anyone stuck with supporting older kids with their maths at home, just discovered an amazing app (maybe don’t tell your kids 🤫) it’s called Photomath and you can take photos of the difficult sum and it tells you the answer, how to work it out and you can watch a tutorial on how!
I worry if I’ve got the balance right with parenting &work, but having my daughter come home & tell me she wrote about me as her role model for
#InternationalWomensDay
at school because ‘she’s won 2 trophies, written 3 books & been on Sky News’ 😭makes me think I’m doing alright!
BIG NEWS - pls RT
This summer holidays I’ll be launching
#CatchUpOnPlaying
a completely free online summer club.
Sharing with parents & teachers of primary aged kids, free activities & ideas for play based fun!
Why? Because children need to catch up on PLAYING this summer.1/2
Opinions please. How does everyone feel about the terms and acronyms ‘special needs’ ‘special educational needs’ ‘SEN’ ‘SEND’ etc? ( I know Wales and Scotland different)
Should we still be using the term ‘special’?
Pls RT

can I presume that now my child will be in a ‘bubble’ of 55 children I am OK to organise a birthday party, inviting all 55 children...or is this considered a mass gathering at a village hall?!
Anyone else watch this & cry? What the hell are we doing?these poor children with SEND who aren’t getting the support they need & deserve from our SEND system & the poor families who are in such a desperate situation. It’s just not good enough
@BBCElaine
@Hugsforvrtra

I’m writing an article about problems parents of children with SEND are faced with when trying to get support (problems with EHCPs, lengthy waits for external agencies- SALT, EPs, CAHMS- subsequent waits for assessments/diagnosis, lack of special school places etc)
Anyone help me find a dress/skirt that I can buy to coordinate with my book for my book launch event in June?! (Indulge me please 🙄 haha!) (p.s let me know if you want to come to the launch event)
Anyone else seeing the same?
My newsfeed today seems to be a combination of worried parents unable to get covid tests for their kids, teachers with lots of absences in their classes and head teachers having to close bubbles due to positive test results. 😞
Come and have a little look through my book with me ☺️!
Aimed at:
Parents/carers/grandparents/teachers etc of children with Special Educational Needs. Nursery to end of primary level.

Agree. Shouldn’t be forced. Be better perhaps to have the coat accessible if they want it when they are outside or make it so they can come inside if cold. Or have a different option of warm layer if the coat is the problem maybe.

🧵 (1/7)Are we missing a trick in supporting children with SEND in schools…and by ‘trick’ I mean a way to help ensure children with SEND are happy, safe and reaching their potential in schools?
There’s been a lot of talk about the need to upskill teachers & provide more…
