“It’s unbelievable what these guys are able to do." Birmingham pitching coach John Ely, Ky Bush and Noah Schultz talk about the dominant starting rotation leading the first-place
@BhamBarons
, providing some hope during a rough 2024 White Sox season:
Tim Anderson on lively home crowds: "On the weekends, it’s the place to go before you go out. We try to make it as a pregame for you. You come to the game, have some drinks, have some fun. We have a DJ up there, playing good music. Use it as a pregame before the night starts."
OF Billy Hamilton is returning to the White Sox on a Minor League deal with a non-roster invite to Spring Training, per source. Hamilton was a contributor on the 2021 AL Central title squad.
Giolilto called Donaldson's comments a classless move as he crossed home plate after the HR. "We won. The W is next to my name. They are in last place."
Chris Bassitt is a really great person, who is coming into his own now as one of the game's elite young starters. You hope and pray he's ok. Baseball means zero compared to that fact.
It sounds as if Jake Burger will be joining the White Sox in Detroit. And not to lose objectivity here, but this is really a story worthy of a movie with what he has gone through and what he has achieved.
Mercedes: "I want to play my first game with the fans in Chicago. I want to see my fans over there on Opening Day in Chicago. I want everyone to talk to me. I want to see my people. I want to see the Yermin fans, the Yerminator fans. I’m so excited. I can’t wait."
Lynn on being a South Side fit: "Living in the suburbs of Indiana, Indianapolis area, the South Side has a tendency to be a little bit more of a home feeling for me than any other place I’ve played. I’m really enjoying it."
White Sox conclude the first half of the season at 49-32, with what soon will be a six game lead in the AL Central. Hahn, Williams, the entire front office, La Russa, his staff and most of all, the players, have done an amazing job considering the plethora of key injuries.
La Russa on Eloy with LF vs. DH: "I made a promise to Eloy if he hits .300, he can play left field a lot. If he hits under .300, he may be DHing and if he hits near .200 he’ll be sitting next to me. He’s smiling like I was kidding."
Abreu: "I was a little emotional today because to hear people say a lot of things about you, people who doubt about you or maybe don’t believe in you, I’m just proving them wrong. Sometimes it gets to you. Today was one of those moments...
Hamilton on the White Sox fans: "Sometimes I get just like this shock through my body, it’s an awesome feeling. These South Side fans, it’s great. They keep me going."
I kid you not -- the White Sox fans here at Kauffman are celebrating the Blackhawks getting the No. 1 pick. There actually was a brief "Let's go Blackhawks" chant in the stands and numerous hugs
I shall reiterate a sentiment from a few weeks ago: I'm not sure Jose Abreu's full value to this franchise will be truly appreciated until possibly after he's retired.
I wonder if even after he retires, which still could be well down the road, the full value of Jose Abreu to the White Sox organization will ever be fully understood and appreciated. It's a fairly safe bet No. 79 will be among those retired franchise numbers someday.
Farquhar: "The thing that caught me off guard was the whole team coming out to the mound. I thought that was an incredibly special moment. Whoever’s decision that was, I’m sure it was James Shields. He’s an incredible leader that we have."
Abreu on his future with the White Sox, with one year left on his current deal: "I don't know. Whatever happens, it's going to happen. I'm going to enjoy the season and try to do my best like I always do and represent the White Sox like I always do."
Lopez got the baseball from his first save. Colas got the baseball from his first hit. Grifol got a victory cigar from general manager Rick Hahn. White Sox got a win over the World Series champs.
From White Sox: The “Southside” player jerseys sold out today at the Chicago Sports Depot in just three hours; Tim Anderson’s jersey sold out in two hours.
"In my opinion, Pat Mahomes the pitcher also plays football. To everybody else, it was probably the other way around."

and
@PatrickMahomes5
have a competitive friendship dating back to youth baseball days in Texas:
Grandal on winning this series to have the best record in baseball: "It doesn't say anything. The best team in baseball is the one that stands alone at the end of the season."
Rick Hahn: "Having these three days off is going to be a benefit. Pito (Jose Abreu) is not going to get hit for these three days so that’s a positive."
Garrett Crochet on his mindset coming in with runners at first and third and one out: "My mindset was I really like Matt (Foster) and I don't want to give up these runs for Matt."
Eloy Jimenez on Jose Abreu: "He feels like a dad. He’s been there for us every single day no matter what, no matter how he feels. It’s really good to have a teammate like that."
I don't totally understand the Jake Burger deal. Loved playing for the White Sox, fans gravitated to him and I get the feeling his talent is just being tapped into. I understand they got a very good arm for him, and nobody really asked me before the trade.
First round picks contributing to first place White Sox: Crochet (2020), Vaughn (2019), Madrigal (injured, 2018), Burger (today, 2017), Collins, Burdi (2016), Rodon (2014), and Anderson (2013).
I asked Tony La Russa if he considers Jose Abreu one of the top players in White Sox history. La Russa: "I think he’s one of the great players in Major League history."
Garrett Crochet--the information is good. Flexor strain in forearm. UCL is clean. Will continue to progress in matter of weeks. No restriction next spring
Tim Anderson discussing the whole Cubs town vs. White Sox town idea in the rivalry: "Yeah, yeah, that makes it more fun and makes the fans buy into it. I’m South Side forever. I love that Sox logo."
White Sox are 0-3 vs. Lance McCullers Jr. in 2021
White Sox are 0-6 in Houston in 2021
Both streaks need to end for the White Sox to advance to the ALCS
Crowd chanting "Sox in 5" in unison. As I said, momentum has changed. It changed in the third but really in the 4th and we'll see in about 15 hours if it carries over.
Jose Abreu played through six seasons of sub-.500 baseball with no playoffs. Now, as the White Sox look toward the postseason, he's having arguably the best season of a great career.
I asked Yasmani Grandal if there was a different vibe around the team over the last three or four days, for lack of a better word.
"I don’t know. What do you think?" he responded.
.....
From A.J. Pierzynski last night on the FS1 White Sox broadcast, talking about Adam Eaton's one-game suspension, currently pending appeal, after his on-field fracas with Cleveland: "Those guys who wear 12 for the White Sox, they always seem to be getting into fracases."
I've said it before: White Sox don't need to add much at this trade deadline. They have an excellent team in place as is, with Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert on the comeback trail.
White Sox lose, 2-0. They have set a single-season franchise record with 107 losses. They finished 0-10 on this homestand and have lost 10 straight overall. It's the first 0-10 homestand in franchise history.
