🚀 New Research Alert! 🚀 SciStarter team members are co-authors on a new publication in the Bulletin of the @AAS_Office. The article showcases how partnerships amplify participatory science, with the eclipse partnerships as our main example! 🌞🔭 For the 2023 & 2024 solar eclipses, SciStarter teamed up with Eclipse Soundscapes and SunSketcher, two @NASA @DoNASAScience-supported projects. Thanks to these collaborations, thousands of people engaged in real scientific discovery! These projects empowered volunteers to contribute directly to eclipse science, with SciStarter helping to reach out to and communicate with volunteers. These efforts culminated with Citizen Science Month in April! 🌍 Eclipse Soundscapes explored how solar eclipses affect life on Earth—especially how animals and nature react. Participants took on three roles: ✅ Apprentices – Learned about eclipses through interactive lessons. ✅ Observers – Used their senses (sight, sound, touch, etc.) to document environmental changes. ✅ Data Collectors – Recorded eclipse audio using AudioMoth devices to study how animals respond. 📸 SunSketcher focused on capturing precise images of the solar eclipse to determine the true shape of the Sun! Today is #NationalPopcornDay—the perfect time to celebrate the ��Eat Popcorn for Science” project! 🍿 Led by an ovarian cancer survivor through the Omentum Project, this initiative invites US-based females, with and without an #omentum (an organ removed in many ovarian cancer survivors), to investigate the effects of high sodium intake on the body—using salty popcorn as a tasty example. Participants help researchers explore whether the omentum plays a role in digesting sodium by measuring themselves and answering questions over three hours. The results could improve the quality of life for #OvarianCancer survivors.
