would anyone be interested in a handbook on VC / founder / investor relationship best practices?
currently working on a handbook for how personality disorders affect founders and how best to recognize the signs / support them as a (prospective) investor or mentor 📈
favourite thing i read today…
~ Slack CEO Stewart Butterfield is leaving Salesforce, which bought Slack for $27.7B in 2021. One of many reasons: “I fantasize about gardening,” Butterfield explained. ~
Day 4 in Austin and I must admit, of all the moves I've made in my life this is the most immediately exciting. There's an energy to the city I haven't quite put my finger on yet.
guys i really want to dress up in a gown and feel silly before the end of the year if i throw an investor / founder glamorous holiday party who wants in?
this morning i saw that the startup that used and abused me earlier this year have gone live with all of my ideas and strategy... and hired an old friend of mine to implement them. i don't know whether to be upset or flattered?!
themes i would like to see less on my timeline: crypto, vc in shambles, threadbois, elon
more: food conversations, alt finance, scientific breakthroughs and random acts of kindness
is that too much to ask?
nyc tech week friends: i'm hosting an investor dinner for investors who are actively deploying.
small group, we'll hang out, eat great food, share deal flow, and discuss the latest trends in both vc and angel circles.
who wants in?
this is the real kicker in VC, founders have little understanding of how the mechanics work behind the scenes, and VCs have little time or patience to explain it
would any of you be interested in some education content?
working on a new model that inverts the way vc currently works. right now, the $ is at the centre, and the investors roll around it, and the founders roll around the investors to get access.
what if we flipped that and put the founders at the centre? what might that look like?
Today is a weird day for me. Today marks 4 years since the most horrific experience of my life.
33% of women who are raped contemplate suicide. 13% attempt. 70% of rape or assault victims experience moderate to severe distress, a larger % than for any other violent crime.
today it hit me that although i work my ass off, i've only worked 5 months of 2022 due to sexual assault, immigration laws and a company hiring me, using me for 3 weeks to raise money and letting me go.
it's hard to stay positive when it feels like i have no say in my own life.
i often think about investing in people > ideas
i go back and forth on both the ethics and outcomes, has anyone got any interesting stories or data around this?
i have absolutely no idea what happens from here, but i can't do it anymore. thank you to all my wonderful friends both irl and here on twitter for supporting me, but until this industry wakes up to the crazy problems plaguing it and actually *does something* about it, i'm out.
if you're hoping to raise money in the next 12 months you should be considering a multi-pronged approach:
- traditional VC
- angels / HNWI
- SPVs
- RegA+ or Reg Cf
underpinning this, is that you should be building a *company* that *makes money*
over a year ago i invited folks to a group around working out, fitness and accountability. time to open the invite for round 2… if you want in, just shout!

A must read for all in VC. We're not a charity. We're not here to make up DEI quotas. And we're not your sex toys.
the way some people talk about thanksgiving dinners you would swear it’s the only day of the year they actually sit at the table and share a meal with others
Please today, if nothing else, be kind. Be compassionate. And think twice about the world you live in. Because this day four years ago my life changed forever.
And that innocent girl with big dreams was lost. I'm still learning who the woman who replaced her is.
super proud of this one... last week my entire life got flipped upside down when i was suddenly and unexpectedly let go
this week i started my dream role with my dream CEO
sometimes good things have to fall apart for better things to fall together 💥
reminder that every time you ask someone for their time you are not only asking for something incredibly valuable, you're also incurring an opportunity cost on what they could have spent that time doing
last night at an event i put together for nytw *specifically* to create a safe space for investor conversations a man hounded me for 20 minutes about how it was ridiculous for me to “not trust men”. this was *after* i spoke about the book i wrote on sexual assault in tech. smh.
a friend reminded me this morning that everyone has influence... maybe at different scales but you impact others, all day, every day. think about what you want to be known for and why.
Sunday story… today I got to play hockey here in AZ! I grew up playing many sports but hockey was my number 1. As a kid, I sat on the side of the pitch as my mom played… I started before I could walk and played competitively until I left Ireland. I’ve missed it every day.
morning all but especially to everyone who told me what they were building in the past 24 hours i see you 👀🤍
reminder that it takes minutes to spin up a landing page and graphic to test and share your idea online and the only person stopping you is yourself
today
@lucasjace

@ShaanVP
and
@thesamparr
. thanks for instigating the first MFM marriage.
@MLBONFOX
the comments on this thread are vile... good for Caroline, this is a major achievement and i'm genuinely shocked that zero other major sports franchises in the US have a woman at the helm of operations
this week a calendly invite ended up on my calendar that i did not arrange or sign up for - a whole new dystopian way of cold outreach. had never heard of the company or person i was supposed to be meeting. terrifying.
