We listen to the cops so you don't have to.
Your friendly neighborhood carceral abolitionists live-tweeting the Baltimore City Police Department's scanner.
“A group of BLM”?
You mean protesters? There wasn’t a protest yesterday. We were on the scanner & heard nothing of the sort of incident you mean, fwiw. We heard of adults trying to fight squeegee kids, if that’s what you mean?
Six years ago today, Freddie Gray died after cops — as part of State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby’s advisement to ramp up arrests in Gilmor Homes — viciously attacked him on April 12th, 2015 & broke his neck. As we hear on the scanner, BPD hasn’t been & can’t be reformed.
#DefundBPD
While we welcome peaceful protests and constructive dialogue on whether and how to put certain monuments in context or move them to museums through a legal process, lawlessness, vandalism, and destruction of public property is completely unacceptable.
Baltimore cops detain 8-year-olds on bicycles, fly choppers over youth protests, hold youth demonstrators in vans in 100-degree heat, charge kids as adults, surveil birthday parties. They’ve attacked children and they’ve killed children. Abolish the police.
A guy threatened to pull a knife on squeegee kids in 2020 & his partner called the cops claiming squeegee workers threatened to attack *them*; folks brag about macing squeegee kids; we’ve seen drivers threaten to shoot squeegee kids for approaching them; miss us w/ your discourse
Anyway, if this is what your daughter was telling you: There were four children at that intersection washing windows. We saw them ourselves & heard this call come in on the scanner a little later. Sorry your daughter lied to you, hope this helps.
80% of Baltimore City cops don’t live in the city; 10% of those don’t even live in MD. It’s wrong that an outside force controls the freedom of our neighbors, and it’s wrong that a majority outside legislature controls that force. We need local control.
#MDGA21
@SenBillFerg
And far be it for us to ever defend the Baltimore Police Department, but they did respond to this call (finding no one there), which was not what was described to you but was close enough - in terms of time & description - to highlight how Black kids are treated in this city.
The neighborhood this former Baltimore FOP President is talking about being scared of is Hampden, where he lives blocks away from the FOP Lodge cops have guarded for months because someone wrote “FOPenis” on it.
Larry Hogan is an apartheid-supporting dirtbag at home and abroad, and we can’t believe he was allowed to put his filthy feet on holy land. This is disgusting and everyone who enables him should recognize this absolute shanda for what he is.
Today, the State of Maryland stands with Israel as Hamas terrorists attack innocent civilians. We pray for all the victims of the bloodshed and that it will soon come to an end.
Additionally, if this is indeed the incident your daughter was in tears over, Baltimore cops *did* go to that location, as you can see in the thread they linked. No squeegee kids were there & neither were the drivers who said they were driving back to fight them.
Scanner: Dispatch says a woman is calling for help because her partner stabbed her with a screwdriver.
A cop says "There used to be such a thing as marriage counseling, now they just call the cops on their spouse," another cop laughs & says "and they want to defund us."
Thanks to
@suchaputz
's tireless efforts, there is now audio of the police radio communication from this as well, which supports our feed from yesterday:
@andreanatalemd
Sir, your daughter's name is Veronica, yeah? See I archive police radio in Baltimore. This appears to be audio of your daughter's incident, and either she or you are full of shit.
Good morning ☀️ It's a great day for
@BaltimorePolice
to release the body cam footage from when police shot a man experiencing a mental health crisis on July 1st, which former FOP Lodge
#3
President Robert Cherry claims he was involved in.
I responded to and assisted with this investigation. While I can’t publically say (at this moment) what transpired, I will state that your tweet has a number of inaccuracies. And a small reminder I learned 27 years ago as a rookie patrol officer...the police radio is but hearsay.
The Israeli military trains with the Baltimore Police Department, as it does with many other police departments in the U.S., and the contract holder for BPD’s newly fully encrypted police radios is Motorola, which holds contracts with the IDF and Israeli police.
We're going to be archiving the Baltimore Police scanner as much as possible here. If you have an action coming up & want to make sure we're focused on covering that & communicating with you directly, please reach out. Be safe out there, folks.❤️
If watching cops physically open the gates to the U.S. Capitol Building for white supremacist terrorists explicitly attempting a coup isn't enough to make you want to, at a bare minimum, defund the police, we don't know what to tell you.
Yesterday, BPD:
1) Chased dirt-bikers, protesters, & literal bricks. Marchers often did their own traffic control.
2) Shut down parties.
3) Failed to respond to a DV call in a timely manner.
4) Called medics to do what they couldn't.
Let's see what they spend our $ on today☀️
Imagine being fake tough guy
@GovLarryHogan
, going on
@TheView
for your talk show book promo rounds & turning into a blinking baby codfish because someone on a national network is willing to fact check you. We love to see it, folks.
Full encryption of police radios is redundant, expensive, and bad for public safety. Please call
@MayorBMScott
, who has not defunded the police a single cent to reinvest in Baltimore communities this year, at 410-396-4900 and ask him to keep police radio channels public.
Good morning ☀️ Yesterday (& early today), BPD:
1. Shot a man having a mental health crisis.
2. Called more cops on another man they said might try to kill himself by "provoking" a cop.
3. Chased off panhandlers.
Let's see how they fail the people of Baltimore today.
It’s almost like, with one of the largest police forces in the country & one of the biggest departments per capita in the country, giving police $550 million dollars a year while giving next to nothing to schools, public services, & infrastructure hasn’t made Baltimore any safer.
In the last 10 days there have been 19 homicides & 43 failed murders (shootings) in Baltimore. Also there have been many stabbings/cuttings. There is no discernible crime plan for the daily violence and the BPD is making no progress in filling the 500 vacancies.
#CityinCrisis
Good morning. Yesterday, BPD shot a person whose family called medics for a mental health crisis. They haven't released body cam footage. BPD claims the victim had two guns, but our audio review didn't indicate that he was armed.
@mayorbcyoung
has refused to comment.
Scanner: THE KEYS TO THE RIOT GEAR ROOM ARE MISSING. Cop who calls this in says, "I'm gonna need whatever unit that has its grubby little paws on them to bring them back."
Morning☀️Yesterday, BPD:
1. Said a child "got pepper-sprayed" without specifying who did that.
2. Continued to describe themselves as "troops".
3. Refused help to a man bc he said he had COVID-19.
4. Outed a confidential informant.
Let's see how they use their budget today.
If you’re a Maryland police officer who knows a fellow officer who was off-duty & in attendance at yesterday’s riot in D.C., we would love to hear from you. Our DMs are open.
Meanwhile, in Baltimore City, a police officer just told SE District cops to "be advised" that "13-15 juveniles [you know, kids]" are riding their bikes nearby. The cop adds that the kids "aren't causing trouble or anything, just be advised."
So far today, Baltimore Police have:
1) Chased bricks.
2) Lost the keys to their riot gear room.
3) Described a small group of peaceful protesters as "a nightmare".
4) Forgotten to give an accident report to the person whose car was in the accident.
5) Possibly hit a dirt-biker.
Scanner: Cop asking for DPW request, re: "a pile of 20 bricks hiding in the bushes over here," at 400 Pratt St. (by the Shake Shack - "Yeah, I had a good breakfast."). Command asking for a "systemic search of the area" surrounding the Shake Shack on Pratt St.
We know it’s late but, if you’re reporting on the fallout from that tweet where
@andreanatalemd
lies about Baltimoreans, c/o his daughter, it would be extremely poor form not to credit
@scanthepolice
&
@suchaputz
for debunking it.
If anyone has crowdfunding links or requests for material assistance from residents in relation to this morning’s disgusting attack, please share them.
This is so incredibly far from the “compromise” BPD claimed it was, implemented just as scanner transmissions showed police lied about their response around the Brooklyn shooting. We need transparency more than ever, but this is what we get instead.
Starting today,
@BaltimorePolice
have encrypted and delayed police scanner traffic access for the public. We can only hear the dispatcher passing messages along, and not anything said by officers in response, all on 15-min delay.
It’s pretty bad.
Good morning ☀️ Yesterday, BPD:
1. Pepper sprayed an unarmed naked man who was hiding behind a house.
2. Stalked cookouts.
3. Believed people "fit a description" when none was given.
Let's see how they spend our money today.
Good morning ☀️ Yesterday, BPD:
1. Outed the full name & address of a state's witness.
2. Sent cops, not medics, to overdose & mental health crisis calls.
3. Took dirt-bikes from kids.
4. Called back-up & an arrest wagon on a ~20-car caravan at the mayor's house.
It's Monday!
Good morning. Yesterday, BPD:
1. Chased a car, which resulted in a fatal crash that killed a woman driver not involved in the chase, who made a supervisor complaint before she died.
2. Complained that they couldn't chase dirt-bikers.
3. Chased squeegee kids & panhandlers.
Hi new followers! We’re an all-volunteer group of folks who tweet out the Baltimore City Police scanner daily, though our coverage times vary based on capacity. We’re not big fans of the carceral state & we truly appreciate all the credit & support y’all give us for what we do.
Morning☀️Yesterday, BPD:
1. Didn't release the body cam footage from when they shot a schizophrenic man on Wednesday.
2. Went to a call as a favor to Councilman Stokes.
3. Responded to calls about kids climbing trees & folks sitting on sidewalks.
The spy plane's at 9500 ft.
Re: Punisher insignia going around from the white riot in D.C. on Jan 6th, here is a Baltimore City cop in 2015 wearing the same insignia on his uniform outside of a sit-in protesting the confirmation of former BPD Commissioner Kevin Davis. It’s over a “thin blue line” flag.
In addition to other folks doing this, we’re reviewing scanner chatter from the whole of January 6th & also making a formal MPIA request to see which Baltimore City police officers were off on Wednesday, January 6th. We’ll offer updates as we have them.
Today, as another uprising begins in Minnesota, marks six years since cops chased down Freddie Gray and broke his neck.
We must abolish the police and make cash reparations to Black people in the United States.
@RevGrey
@disnazzio
Thanks! We also tweeted to debunk this ridiculous doctor’s lie around 2:30 today, but we’re glad someone also pulled the audio. Jasen’s awesome.
Today is the 7th anniversary of BPD & a Morgan State University cop murdering Tyrone West. His sister, Tawanda Jones, has demonstrated each Wednesday since.
@BaltimorePolice
who killed West are still patrolling &
@BaltimoreSAO
did & continues to do nothing. The whole damn system.
The images coming in from the United State Capitol Building today are heartbreaking to every American.
We call on President
@realDonaldTrump
to forcefully urge these demonstrators to stop their unlawful activity, to stand down, and to disperse.
Not sure who needs to hear this, but bridging the digital divide will be meaningless if kids don’t have homes from which to learn in the Fall because the city failed to provide adequate rent relief because it gave all our money to policing.
#StopEvictions
#CancelRent
#DefundBPD
Today marks 8 years since cops brutally attacked and murdered Tyrone West. Those cops faced no charges — some have even been promoted since then. West’s sister, Tawanda Jones, has been leading her family and many others in seeking justice for him ever since.
#JusticeForTyroneWest
Good morning☀️Yesterday, BPD:
1. Barricaded HQ.
2. Lied about protesters being violent & got clowned when they threw one of Baltimore's three Columbus statues into the harbor.
3. Called huge numbers of cops to parties, including one with lots of kids in Druid Hill Park.
When you suggest it undermines the police when we chronicle a radio channel, which is on the public record, in our mentions, it only motivates us more. 🤗
@jemillerwbal
Here’s a thread linking to what police themselves described over their radios on Sunday. The doctor’s daughter called cops on squeegee kids, who were gone when the cops arrived, along with her & her boyfriend, who tried to fight the kids. Scanner audio at the end.
“A group of BLM”?
You mean protesters? There wasn’t a protest yesterday. We were on the scanner & heard nothing of the sort of incident you mean, fwiw. We heard of adults trying to fight squeegee kids, if that’s what you mean?
Good morning ☀️ Yesterday, BPD:
1. Saw the arrest of one of their sergeants - a homicide detective who investigated the murders of Kevin Jones & Sean Suiter - arrested for kidnapping & extortion; three of his colleagues were suspended pending investigation of their involvement.
Good morning☀️Yesterday, BPD:
1. Sent cops into medical situations instead of medics.
2. Staked out a house with SWAT when no weapons were reported.
3. Stopped broadcasting during a foot chase at Charles & Baltimore.
4. Stalked squeegee kids.
Let's see what they do today!
☀️We launched STP a week ago today☀️
Yesterday, BPD spent a
#DefundBPD
protest deploying CID officers, the surveillance plane, a helicopter, & a drone. They switched to their tactical channel to talk privately for most of that time.
Let's see how they spend our money today.
Unconscionable that
@BaltimorePolice
are charging a man who was experiencing a mental health episode when they shot him multiple times, while he's still in critical condition in the hospital, w/ first degree assault &
@MarilynMosbyEsq
should drop the charges
#RickyWalkerJr

@MayorBMScott
: We’re sure you’re already well aware that police behavior found during the Gun Trace Task Force scandal is still happening within the BPD, but we wanted to bring this incident from tonight to your attention since it was so explicit.
Thread of our review of scanner audio leading up to cops shooting a man having a mental health crisis - whose family member initially requested medics they didn't get until cops shot him - at 5809 Falkirk around 4:00 a.m. today. We heard heard /no/ audio suggesting man had a gun.
These barricades have gone up ahead of
@GKMCBmore
’s planned protest in solidarity with victims of police brutality tonight. Can’t reiterate enough that no one has tried to storm City Hall in one of their protests and, as always, this sort of police response is wholly overblown.
This isn't over, but we just wanna take a moment & say: Cops got clowned, Columbus got drowned, everyone gets laid tonight.
Also, now is a great time to donate to
@BALTLegal
's bail fund at
Contextually, BPD HQ is right next to this intersection and cops have a regular beat just watching squeegee kids; a guy went after squeegee kids with a bat and cops suddenly weren’t watching, which is just a little more proof that a police presence isn’t there for safety.
Baltimore County police incident being investigated in the 200 block of Redwood Street in downtown Baltimore. Road closures at Calvert and Redwood and South Street and Redwood.
Good evening! 🌔 Somehow, we heard some rich folks who still don't pay their taxes were talking about "police reform" vs. systemic defunding last week.
Well, let's see how BPD spends its half-a-billion-dollar budget tonight while thousands of Baltimoreans are impoverished.
We call this poem: "Why the fuck is a police helicopter being used on a party that sounded really chill & fun until the cops showed up?"
Roses are red
Cop budgets must decrease
Bring back the Red Line
Abolish police
ALERT: If you are at the protest downtown & have a red backpack on, please be safe. If you are at the protest downtown, please protect this man because police are heavily targeting him.
Good morning ☀️ Yesterday, BPD:
1. Chased a man they thought was suicidal.
2. Responded to a call about a "suspicious man" who was just a landscape worker.
3. Used a helicopter for non-BPD business.
The surveillance plane is circling Baltimore at 9400 ft. Today is Friday.
Good morning☀️Yesterday, on Juneteenth, BPD:
1. Called folks demonstrating for Black womyn & femme survivors "liars, all liars" bc they only shared part of their march route with police.
2. Stopped responding elsewhere in the city bc three small protests were happening.
