Last Friday my beautiful Mum passed away from pneumonia caused by covid. She was the best Mum, Nanny & Nonna anyone could wish for and I am blessed she was here loving and supporting me for nearly 60 years. I am devastated by her loss but comforted by the wonderful memories ❤️

This week I have lost two friends to bastard breast cancer. Both beautiful young women with everything to live for. Both leaving a big hole. Retreating to Planet Sal & having a wallow 💔.

On Wednesday my wonderful Dad passed away peacefully at home with my sister Penny & I holding his hands. He was the best Dad a girl could wish for& I will miss him dreadfully 💔

Nine years ago I was mid treatment for breast cancer. My wonderful surgeon who always had my back was Indian and my fabulous oncologist was Irish. Both women who dedicated their careers to making sure women like me got the best possible care. #NoToDidoHardingForNHS.

For most of my working life I was a higher rate taxpayer, I had no inherited wealth, I come from a family who knew what financial hardship was and I paid extra tax with pride & pleasure. It made little difference to me, but helped fund Sure Start, why wouldn’t you want to do that.

Eight years ago this week I was beginning to start treatment for breast cancer. My surgeon said be prepared to lose a year of your life. He was right, housebound for 2 weeks every month, no events, no travel, no nights out. It’s not great but can be done. Bloody well stay in!!.

I’ve served pies at 2 Labour events when conferences were in Liverpool. At neither did anyone show any interest in our community business & how it delivers social and economic impacts. One of the events our team were treated very badly by delegates & organisers. Very telling.

This is truly fabulous. I remember the day before lockdown Mildred sobbing in the bakery that she may not survive to go to the garden party. She made it & these pictures fill me with joy.
Our Operations Manager Angela and Volunteer Mildred had been invited by to attend The Queens Garden Party at Buckingham Palace in Summer 2020. However, COVID hit and sadly the parties postponed. But yesterday, they finally got to attend the party at the palace!

My career ended as an FD in a FTSE100 company. I was employed by an amazing company because another working class woman saw beyond the midlands accent, rough edges, lack of confidence & took a chance. I hope I’ve repaid that gamble many times over supporting other women #IWD2021.
