I’m glad parliament started 2025 with a debate on tackling violence against women and girls. Thank you @Matthew_Patrick for highlighting the huge economic harm abusers cause survivors and for calling on government to put tackling economic abuse at the heart of its VAWG strategy.
A huge thank you to @Matthew_Patrick for raising the issue of economic abuse yesterday in the House of Commons. The government must ensure that economic abuse is at the heart of their strategy to halve violence against women and girls.

Nearly 1 million UK women are trapped with a dangerous abuser because of economic abuse. To break the cycle of domestic abuse, the government must put tackling economic abuse at the heart of its strategy to halve #VAWG in a decade. #EconomicAbuseAwareness

Today the Chancellor missed her chance to set out how the government will secure economic stability for domestic abuse survivors. Economic abuse is costing the taxpayer and it's costing lives. The gov must put ending economic abuse at the heart of its VAWG strategy. #Budget2024
Today the Chancellor promised in her #AutumnBudget to restore the nation’s economic stability, but she failed to outline how she will invest to stop economic abuse and help victim-survivors rebuild their lives. Read our full response ⬇️

Thank you @jessphillips for highlighting our work with the banks to support good outcomes for customers and employees at @EIDAorg. Tackling economic abuse must be at the heart of the VAWG strategy. Working together, we can drive forward responses in the public and private sector.
Powerful speeches by @jessphillips @CommissionerDA @sarahnewton at the @EIDAorg Conference #EIDAjoiningforces on how employers should take ambitious action to support their employees impacted by #domesticabuse Change is not only possible, it is happening now.

A lack of control over their own money is a huge barrier to survivors leaving an abuser. @TSB is leading the way with their Flee Fund for customers experiencing domestic abuse. Giving control back to survivors so they can safely escape the abuser and start to rebuild their lives
We know how challenging it can be to escape abusive relationships. Our Flee Fund gives domestic abuse victims up to £500 to pay for essentials that make leaving possible with no need to pay it back. Talk to us privately in any TSB branch or via video call.

This is such an important report from @ResFamilyLaw. Domestic abusers are misusing divorce and financial remedy proceedings to cause economic harm. We need civil courts to recognise economic abuse and stop abusers from misusing the system so survivors can access fair outcomes.
Today, 4PB is delighted to host the launch of @ResFamilyLaw's report on Domestic Abuse in Financial Remedy Proceedings. The report, co-chaired by our very own @Anita Mehta and @OliviaPiercy2 from @HuntersLaw, explores the perspectives of family law professionals on this issue. It represents the combined efforts of over 50 barristers, solicitors, academics, independent financial advisers, mediators, coaches, and domestic abuse charities, who have explored this pressing and important topic on behalf of Resolution. Anita commented: “This report shines a light on the experiences of victim-survivors who are accessing the Family Justice System in respect of resolving their finances. It pulls together insights both from professionals and victim-survivors. The report grapples with the difficult question of whether the impact of domestic abuse should be reflected in the final division of the parties’ finances. It recognises that there are a wide range of views about that issue and does not make a final recommendation in that regard. However, it recommends a number of changes that can be made from the moment the parties have separated until a final court order is enacted to make the journey safer and fairer for victim-survivors. Resolution hopes to work with other stakeholders, senior judiciary and policymakers to co-operate around implementing the recommendations in 2025.” The launch event will take place today from 5pm to 6pm, at 4PB, with guests hearing from: Anita Mehta – 4PB Charles Hale KC (@twitbarrister) – 4PB Nicole Jacobs (@CommissionerDA) – The Domestic Abuse Commissioner Grant Cameron (@Grant_FamilyLaw) – Chair of @ResFamilyLaw
@OliviaPiercy2 – @HuntersFamLaw
@SamHillas KC – St John's Buildings Barristers' Chambers #ResEAreport #FamilyLaw #DomesticAbuse #FinancialRemedy

It’s good the Prime Minister has promised to make sure domestic abuse survivors have a safe and secure home. This must include preventing abusers misusing joint mortgages so survivors don’t end up homeless. Tackling economic abuse must be part of its mission to halve VAWG #LPC24
We're pleased @Keir_Starmer has promised security and 'a roof over their head' for domestic abuse survivors. The government must put tackling economic abuse at heart of its mission to halve Violence Against Women and Girls in a decade - working with us to drive systems change.

It’s good the government is introducing domestic abuse specialists into every 999 control room. But it also needs to make sure every criminal justice professional is properly trained in domestic, including economic, abuse. It’s the only way for survivors to achieve justice.
Raneem Oudeh called the police four times on the night she and her mother Khaola were killed but no one came. This Labour Government is introducing Raneem’s law - including domestic abuse specialists in 999 control rooms so domestic abuse victims get the urgent help they need.
