Microsoft has a market cap larger than the GDP of all but five countries in the world. Entire NATIONS. And it can’t sustain the team that made Hifi Rush? Fuck off.
Was just told a story by a friend about her work colleague who went on a first date, ordered a bottle of wine (and subsequently two more) and mis-read the price as £50.00 instead of the actual £5000, and now has a ten year direct debit to The Shard to pay off her huge wine debt.
On 2015/12/16 I became independent. No office, just a tiny room, no staff, no machines nothing. All I had was this KJP logo, notepad & pen and my own PC. I started to work on the concept while recruiting staffs, finding office & game engine. Had dream and connection that's all.👍
I thought it would be cool to get a consensus on the 100 Greatest Games of All Time. I contacted hundreds of people from Ninja to Naughty Dog – and then counted thousands of votes. With the help of my long-time editor we put together the ultimate list:
For 2 years I've been between London and LA to tell the story of TLOU: Part II. So gutted for
@Neil_Druckmann
and a team who I've watched putting their all into it. From everything I've seen and played, it's worth an even longer wait. Fuck COVID!
There’s a moment in that Quartering video where he scrolls through Metacritic moaning about Gamespot’s low 7/10, spots a 6/10 written by a man just below it, literally almost goes ‘huh’ before returning to focusing on the 7/10 written by a woman. That’s all you need to know.
It’s criminal how easy it is to spend £40 now. Two onions and some bits? £40. Modest one course dinner with non-alcoholic drinks? £40. Why aren’t we rioting
Watching the original Pirates of the Caribbean and noticed they change the colour of Jonathan Pryce’s wig to denote a flashback - even though it’s a wig for the character.
Rockstar spoke to me about the new GTA: Online update. It's new island paradise looks brilliant, was developed entirely from home, and gives us a good sense of what to expect from GTA 6:
TLOU2 getting those BAFTA noms reminded me of a funny story I couldn’t write about in my piece. But it is my closest experience of how video games are terrible until they aren’t. And how I never realised *just how late in the day* shit comes together. Spoilers ahead.
How Xbox outgrew the console: I spent time with
@XboxP3
and his A-Team to talk the last 20 (and the next 20) years of
#Xbox
.
Xbox One, Game Pass, Halo Infinite, xCloud, $7.5BN buyouts, The Elder Scrolls 6, succession planning. We covered it all.
#Xbox20
I hung out with Dan Houser and others from
@RockstarGames
to document the making of
#RedDeadRedemption2
. We also talked GTA 6, Trump, racism, feminism, crunch, the trouble with realistic birds, and the benefits of running a company with your brother.
Leaks suck, man. Devs put their heart and soul into something for years. It’s not some public service you have a right to see. I was covering
@Neil_Druckmann
and team when the TLOU2 leaks came out. It is demoralising. It is stressful. Teams don’t need this. Don’t do it!!!
It is weird - and I knew this would come up. We tried. Trust me, we tried. And we were stonewalled at every turn. Nintendo told us it would be minimum of a year to get it signed off. Then we got told a flat no. Same with other studios in JP.
Is it just me or is it weird that there’s not a single Japanese dev or journalist in the list of people asked? Even though Japanese titles make up 4 of the top 10?
Last month I spent a few days with Todd Howard & team and played 8+ hours of
#Starfield
📷. We talked about their biggest, most roleplay-ey game ever.
Plus! Tom Cruise. Space invites. Existential dread. Broken eyes. TES6. Game design flaws of LIFE ITSELF
I could write a book about this experience, but in short: Part II is even better than the original, avoids predictability, raises the bar on game writing. It’s a triumph against adversity (both for diverse storytelling and for ND) and is the best PlayStation game this generation.
Can anyone stop
@GeorgeRussell63
? I spent a few months getting to know
@MercedesAMGF1
’s new wonderkid. We talked his past, present and future. About Lewis Hamilton, rivalries, and the end of last season. And about, er... scrambled eggs:
A few weeks after I interviewed Ken Levine, he quit. It was the last interview he did at Irrational. A year after I interviewed Dan Houser, he quit. It is the last interview he did at Rockstar. All I can say is, I'm sorry to the dev I'm profiling next.
One interesting thing I did like while receiving ballots are the games which only got one vote, but a vote at the TOP of someone's list. The deep cut faves. These are the games that fit into that category.

HBO of Us is really good. Episode 3 is a masterpiece. Several game moments made even better with some subtle changes and really shocking impact. A bunch of additions and deviations that are complete successes. And an absolutely perfect Ellie despite all my reservations.
my brother just got 7 A**s and 3 A*s but he also recently put milk in a kettle and broke it. You can have good grades AND be a spectacularly stupid motherfucker.
I do not understand how publisher model can work if every game has to sell 20m copies. The entire point is to allow small to coexist with big. Even more frustrating when your entire business model is a sub service you keep saying is a success that means game sales aren’t the goal
Have become addicted to Resetera threads of assumptions/criticisms about TLOU2 from people who have not played it. Nothing will ever fascinate me more than the self-assuredness of a gamer.
My 11 y/o neff is completely deaf. Recently his internal processors (which mean he can hear) failed. Had to miss first weeks of big school having a big painful operation. I'm giving him a Nintendo Switch to cheer him up. BUT he needs GAMES. PRs and nice people: plz help?
Lord of the Rings is going to get fully Star Warred isn’t it. It’ll be 2035 and I’ll be watching a 10 part series about how Gothmog the orc’s face got fucked up.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim original anime is reportedly set for release in April 2024 by Warner Bros.
Set 200 years before The Hobbit, it will explore the exploits of Helm Hammerhand, the King of Rohan and the creation of Helm’s Deep.
Lastly, a boring thing: pieces like this are really hard to realise. We first talked about it in 2017. As a freelancer, they’re basically impossible to make financially viable. Please read and RT to make it all worthwhile.
