Well, first thing to note is that's not what happens in the book. The battle is much more strategic there. Otherwise, Aragorn fully expects to die at the Black Gate. His only objective is to distract Sauron and all his armies so that Frodo might get across Mordor and to Mt Doom. Nothing else really matters.
