I WON!! My humblest thanks to @IrlEmbAthens, @InsiderAthens, and the judges for choosing my story as the winner of the Bloomsday Competition. Congrats too to fellow shortlisters (esp. fellow #dooligan, @thesparklyshell) I'm sooo glad this found a home.

@JFennellAuthor "Some are born boorish, some achieve boorishness, and some have boorishness slide unbidden into their DMs." - Twelfth Night, if I'm not mistaken.

@henrywinter You know the corollary of this statement is that some refs deliberately don't let the game flow and do want to be "the show". Intentionally or otherwise, you are tacitly endorsing the threats to another ref last week. Shit-stirring for likes from the safety of your ivory tower.

Imagine having to scrape down to this level of idiocy to make a living. *Won a treble in his first season *Broke record after record after record *Completed an unprecedented 4-in-a-row in his second season. *Now, 1 goal behind the guy who apparently a shoo-in for the Ballon d'Or.
"I don’t believe Man City have been a better team since Erling Haaland’s arrival. This is not his fault but there is no doubt his all-round play, especially his inability to play more of a part in City’s build-up play, is a weakness that diminishes the team" ✍️ @DavidWalshST

Is it weird that I was proud to discover that this young one is from Limerick? No... no, I don't believe it is!
🗣️"The big Irish head on you" - is there any truth to the phrase? Farrah Corbett from Coláiste Chiaráin in Co Limerick has investigated the width of Irish heads and is presenting her findings at the #BTYSTE2025 👇 📺@VirginMediaNews

@JFennellAuthor Ah, thanks! Working in logistics, I automatically thought along more prosaic lines (many are produced in Eng/ Ire now, where trained UK actors are readily available) but your theory explains the audience's acceptance of the change - which is what really puzzled me. Thanks again.

🗣 "A joy to watch". Where does this Liverpool attack rank among the greats of the Premier League era? 🤔 #MOTD #BBCFootball

@earthmother696 @Manchu__ @MarkChangizi Of course! But pls see how Isreal is now doing the same to Palestine on an industrial scale. Bombing hospitals? Driving people from their homes and then blanket bombing their camp sites? IDF boasting online about rape, torture & execution... that isn't defence. That's barbarism.

@earthmother696 @Manchu__ @MarkChangizi Oh, so mass slaughter and collective punishment up to the tipping point for genocide is completely justifiable? Right, gotcha. Imagine if the British had stopped exporting Irish food in say, 1842 Or the Nazis had opened the concentration camps in say, 1943... would that be OK?

@earthmother696 @Manchu__ @MarkChangizi I have zero intention of playing word games with you, sir. Israel is acting outside international law and beyond the bounds of human decency. Anyone who would indulge in semantics to condone it's actions is - at best - being disingenuous.

@Manchu__ @MarkChangizi The Irish aren't viewing Islamist terror groups as anything other than Islamist terror groups. Equally, the Irish aren't viewing Israel's ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people as anything other than ISRAEL (and not the entire Jewish people) committing genocide.

@FearStairLmk I wonder do we now have more coffee shops than pubs in the city centre (and indeed, beyond).

@NatalieKelda @oldmudgie Both phrases would be understood in Ireland. Gander, in particular, is in popular use. Mooch wouldn't be so popular but, as I say, we'd get it. (Mooch also means to play truant, over. This probably points to an origin in the French word, muchier (to hide)?).

And "exciting " opportunity to put a human designer out of a job..? I love you, City, but that's gotta be a hard hell no from me.
