@BySamMeadows @CallumCMason On my French point, that was in relation to identifying "true farmers" as opposed to investors. You said it was "complicated and expensive", I'm not sure it is

@CallumCMason @BySamMeadows @TorstenBell has a good thread on this, seems pretty simple to identify them. In legislation could just have to prove you're a farmer, as in France
And these numbers include those who aren't remotely real farmers but simply engaged in active tax planning. How do we know? Because we can see that around a fifth of those affected don't just own fields but lots of (IHT relieved) AIM shares - a clear sign of active tax planning

@TorstenBell If we know who is buying up farmland for tax purposes, why not just target them, rather than everyone who owns farmland and might have farmed it for generations?
