Yesterday, on my first day in office as Foreign Minister, I held a staff durbar with the incredibly talented staff of the Foreign Ministry. They have my full assurances that welfare enhancement would not be compromised. I hit the ground running by inaugurating two important committees on Passport Reforms and Safe Job Migration. Ghanaians deserve a modernized Passport Office which works 24 hours, eliminates ‘goro boys,’ has a fairer and affordable fees regime, removes multiple biometric bottlenecks and guarantees convenient direct passport deliveries by courier across the country. As indicated at my vetting, I also believe the Foreign Ministry must facilitate safer job migration opportunities within a bilateral framework with other governments that ensures that we are not only creating employment opportunities for Ghanaian youth abroad but we are doing so in a regulated environment without the current exploitation and violation of their rights. Expect more exciting reforms in the coming days. Together, we shall assist President Mahama achieve his transformational vision of resetting our foreign relations. Our Foreign Ministry must work for all Ghanaians.
