Moreover, to address the legitimacy gap, reconstitution of inclusive interim regional administration with all Tigrayan stakeholders is a necessary step towards sustaining peace.

Instead of urgently addressing this crisis, the Ethiopian government has chosen to exacerbate the situation. The renewed displacement of Tigrayans, including blind persons, from Western Tigray is a prime example of this callous disregard for human life.

Tigrayans, survivors of the genocidal war that displaced them from their homes, are holding a public rally today. This demonstration is a desperate plea to the Ethiopian government and the international community for urgent attention.

Militants who perpetrated the horrific ethnic cleansing against Tigrayans are being systematically armed and trained by the government, directly contradicting the agreed-upon disarmament and withdrawal plan.

We once again condemn these statements and practices, which are intended to delay the return of the constitutional administrative status quo ante, the withdrawal of the invaders, and the safe return of millions of Tigrayan internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees.

Not only do Tigrayan civil servants deserve their regular pay, but they also deserve compensation for the collective punishment they endured during the two-year genocidal war.

The State Department's claim that internally displaced persons have returned to their homes is inaccurate and deeply insensitive to the plight of millions of Tigrayans who continue to suffer in dire conditions.
