1. The layman summary of our recent publication
@CircRes
1. We study why some people's blood pressure goes up when they eat too much salt. We found that certain immune cells, called antigen-presenting cells (APCs), play an important role in this process.
Thank you everyone for contributing to this important study. I want to, especially, express my gratitude to
@annetkiraboc1
for her continued support and guidance🙏Thank you again everyone! Please ask, if anyone has any questions!

4. We also showed that these immune cells in the kidneys produce chemicals that cause inflammation, which worsens the blood pressure (BP) problem. In simple terms, we showed that some immune cells overreact to dietary salt, causing inflammation and raising BP and kidney injury.

2. When exposed to high salt, these cells activate a specific pathway (involving JAK2, STAT3, and SMAD3) that leads to inflammation, which can raise blood pressure. We tested this by looking at blood cells from people who were sensitive or resistant to salt

Take home message: Eat less salt 🧂😊

Our new study revealed renal SGK1 is required to achieve blood pressure surge and day/night difference. We also found mice lacking renal SGK1 exhibit increased pulse pressure due to compensatory increase in Aldosterone.
