Real fans know it was entirely Lokesh’s decision to go 50-50 and play it safe for his first collaboration with the biggest star in Tamil cinema. It was only after shooting commenced for Master that Vijay expressed his desire to act in a film like Kaithi.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: targeting one section of the audience all the time is a formula for failure. You end up with a niche fanbase. Vijay has too many types of audiences to please. He has to do Varisu type movies to entertain his non-social media audience.

You can compare the action sequences between Ghilli & Okkadu all day long, but what made Ghilli special was Vijay’s performance in the light-hearted portions with his family. There are very few all-rounded entertainers like Vijay, & that’s the only reason why Ghilli > Okkadu.
