Stills from ‘Hawsawi’ a documentary I created in Jeddah on Saudi citizens who trace their roots to Hausa populations from West Africa through movement of Hausa people who settled in Saudi trying to escape European colonization in the late 19th century. Premiere coming soon!
Police shot multiple live bullets at protesters in Kaduna. Justification: destruction of properties while the protest was ongoing. My cousin died on the scene. There is a video, but I cannot bring myself to watch. Allah ya isa.
I still don’t understand this bigoted rhetoric that has been ongoing. APC only won Borno, Jigawa and Zamfara states across the 13 combined states in the north-west and north-east. Maybe you need the proper education to understand this.
Palestinian-Nigerian. Bernawi - loosely meaning from Borno - is one of the three biggest Afro-Arabian families together with Hawsawi (Hausa) and Fellatah (Fulani).

I chronicle writing about feminism in the early 90s and the subversion of patriarchy by Hausa women writers.

SUG Presidents in the 80,90s and early 2000s were dressed as comrades and revolutionists. A mirror of the society they lived in of unionism, anti-apartheid, anti-military dictatorship. Since the 2010s student unionism now mirrors ‘thieving’ politicians and grandiosity.
A political appointment in Nigeria is presumed as a largesse. A grand turbaning, a win for the individual and their associates. The work to be done is secondary.

Continuous and constant patronage economy. This could be done in a whole different way and system, but no, taxpayers money has to be delivered like a gift, you have to remember who hand delivered those envelopes to you. Madugu and his Son. They want to own your conscience.

as always, then coming back to this platform to see the quite scary and hateful attacks. We are such a violent people, especially towards women, while hiding behind religion and it’s so disgusting.
Today we took the Compound Dance Production to the streets in Kaduna! This is just the first step of using dance to re-imagine and redefine Northern Nigeria through artistic and cultural practices.
It was amazing to see the people, the community come out and embrace us!
Random fact: I still have never read the English version of Animal Farm. Everything I know about it is from this Hausa version. Same thing with Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice, I’ve only ever read the Hausa version ‘Matsolon Attajiri’.

When Kaduna was bleeding it didn’t discriminate based on religion, age or gender. We lost loved ones, we lost properties, we were shattered, we were traumatized. To those trying to instigate the divide and violence yet again, shame on you!
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, I spoke to

If you don’t want NLC to ask for unrealistic minimum wage, make your politicians make the current wage livable. It’s not NLC’s job to make the economy work.
I just realized the privilege of growing up in Muslim majority Northern Nigeria meant I never knew the struggle of having to assert my religious believes to anyone. It just flows. I'm a Muslim. The respect of my religious rights was ensured as part of the majority.

In Nigeria, if bandits and terrorists don’t kill you, the army will kill you. Tragic news from the deaths in Tudun Biri. We only wish they might get justice from the injustice of Nigeria even in death.
Senior royal family members from house Windsor have repeatedly visited Nigeria; often kano. To not recognize this will be an inaccurate account as we all know how dear her majesty’s commonwealth family meant to her.
Super happy about this 😁

This is interesting. The minimum wage in Benin Republic is 52k CFA, that’s about 130k Naira. If Nigerians had proper command of French, our working class could be trooping into Niger Republic and Benin Republic for a better quality of life.
N100k is now 39K CFA. Cotonou and Togo are no longer the cheap places you can go flex. They are now higher cost locations for Nigerians.
As you were, folks.
I revere Tj’s writing so much. So when he sends me messages saying I am a gifted writer, and he is in awe of my skill, it is all the validation I need. I read Tj’s works and I scream all the time like the fan that I am. Like, I am so glad we are of the same generation.
