Some of us survived genocide, while others did not. Those who survived have had to endure its lasting consequences. Many of us lost family members, while others were separated and resettled in different countries. In my case, my family ended up in three different countries, and for nearly eight years, we have been unable to meet each other. This experience is the reality for most Yazidis. An entire generation has been born and raised in IDP camps, facing numerous challenges, including little to no education, inadequate healthcare, and a lack of basic services. Additionally, there is a fading connection to our language and cultural traditions. Sometimes, the aftermath of genocide can be even more devastating than the event itself. ♦︎This photo from the top of Mount Sinjar, while people were trapped by ISIS. #Yazidi_Genocide

When I look at this photo, I see Yazidis in Iraq walking toward an uncertain future. Nearly 11 years after the ISIS genocide, little has changed. Thousands remain displaced in IDP camps, 2,700 Yazidi women and girls are still missing in captivity, most mass graves remain unexhumed, and Sinjar’s infrastructure is still in ruins. Meanwhile, Iraqi officials—both federal and regional—seem indifferent to the suffering of their people, more focused on corruption than rebuilding the country. #Yazidi_Genocide

Congressman @RepJoeWilson, I’ve been following you on X for a while, and we need more leaders like you. Your voice represents those who are voiceless. Keep up the great work in advocating for a Middle East free from violence and the persecution of minorities.
Grateful to be honored by these Syrian American patriots today. Raise your head up high, you are a free Syrian! ارفع راسك فوق انت سوري حر

This is a powerful and insightful paper by @SaretaAshraph, documenting the devastating impact of ISIL’s attacks on the Yazidi villages of Tel Qasab and Tel Banat. The study sheds light on the brutal genocidal campaign waged by ISIS against the Yazidi community in 2024, offering a critical examination of the demographic consequences and human toll of these atrocities:

On #HolocaustRemembranceDay , we take time to remember the millions of lives lost and honor the strength of the survivors. It’s a day to reflect on the horrors of the past and the damage caused by hatred and intolerance. We also use this time to educate ourselves and others, stand against prejudice, and commit to building a future where something like this can never happen again. It’s about remembering, learning, and working together to make “never again” a promise we keep. #Holocaust

@Elif_Safak's new novel brings together four stories set in three different centuries: ancient #Mesopotamia, 19th century London, a #Yazidi village in 2014, and the present day. It connects them through the epic of Gilgamesh, and a single drop of fresh water. Making history come alive is one of Elif’s many talents, and today she shares her thoughts on how novels can fill in the gaps in authorised history. She also talks with Lilah about the importance of the unwritten word — and why she looks to oral traditions to make sense of the past. via @ft

Yazda’s latest report sheds light on a widespread campaign of hate speech targeting Yazidis in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, which emerged a few months ago and gained significant traction on social media platforms. The report emphasizes the alarming scale and impact of this online hostility, highlighting the potential consequences for social cohesion, minority rights, and community safety. It calls for urgent action from governments, civil society organizations, and social media companies to address the spread of hate speech and protect the rights and dignity of the Yazidi community and other minorities. @YazdaOrg
