24/05/2011 - enters foster care
01/07/2022 - gets into university!
Yes folks, after never ever thinking university was for me, let alone get the grades for it, I’m pleased to announce I’ll be going to university to study Scot’s Law!
I am ecstatic! 😄
This week was special for me. I received a conditional offer to Strathclyde University in Glasgow for September 2019. I am proud of myself on how far I’ve come. I want to recognise and acknowledge all those how have supported me throughout this journey.
Thank you.
It’s great to see that you have listened and acted to my calls of you being the Ultimate Human Right defender
@NicolaSturgeon
.
I am very thankful for your continued commitment.
It means a lot for care experienced young people in Scotland.
First Minister
@NicolaSturgeon
: "Where possible and where we have the power we will incorporate the Convention fully and directly into Scots Law and we will do that by the end of this term of the Scottish Parliament."

#WorldChildrensDay
This week I will embark on a trip to the UN in Geneva to speak on behalf of care experienced people in Scotland. Never did I think that I would have this opportunity 8 years ago. 8 years of foster care has changed my life for the better. A young boy from the Gorbals exceeding.
24th May 2011 at 3pm my life changed. Something instantly saw me removed from class a little earlier than everyone else. I said my goodbyes to my teacher and friends and told them I’d see them soon. I told them I wouldn’t be out after school to play football.
I’ve been involved in political activism for around 6 years now. Most of that time was lobbying and campaigning for the UNCRC Incorporation Bill in Scotland.
I’ve seen some mental times already but this tops it. A landmark piece of legislation possibly ripped from us! So angry!
UK govt is referring two Holyrood laws to
@UKSupremeCourt
to decide if MSPs have gone beyond the powers of the devolved parliament
The bills would incorporate the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the European Charter of local self govt into Scots law
This is my piece in the BBC Scotland post below. I am proud of how far I’ve come but if it wasn’t for my Foster Mum and Dad it wouldn’t be possible, they have shown me extensive amounts of love which I’m grateful of. Thanks to
@whocaresscot
for allowing me to share my experiences
Happy Mother’s Day
@NicolaSturgeon
, I hope you’ve had a great day.
I see there has been some words said about chief mammy or corporate parent, so to rule out any more of that I’ll call you mum!
I hope you’re well and looking forward to meeting you next. Sending you my love.
Announcement Alert! On Monday 10th December I will be giving a speech in the Scottish Parliament Chamber about the being a Human Rights Defender because that day we celebrate Human Rights Day 70th anniversary. I will have the chance to introduce the First Minister to her speech.
As a care experienced person in my early 20s, I’ve had a few exam results days in my time and the same thing seems to happen, I get weirded out by it. The unknown of what the following months may look & feel like. This time I hope I get into university at the 3rd time of trying.
Today I found out that I have been accepted into Glasgow Clyde College.
I’m looking forward to getting started.
I’m really grateful for everyone’s support up to this point.
I would like to thank many people but it goes beyond a single threat. I do usually thank those in power or organisations or individual people, but I have to thank myself for everything I have done over the last 8 years as I know me best and it’s good to reflect on who I am.
It is with deep sadness to announce that I won’t be seeking election at the upcoming SYP Elections. I’ve given it all I can give. Taken opportunities by the scruff and done it with pride and compassion for others. It’s time I reflect on me more as a person and enjoy me for once.
A very big Thank you to
@NicolaSturgeon
for attending
@whocaresscot
summer camp this week, it was great to have a chat about progress around changes to be made to Scotland’s care system. I look forward to the future conversations & seeing you make Care Experienced people happy.
After not posting properly in a while I feel it’s my place to tell you know why. First of all, I would like to say that I have been doing work for my constituents in the background. A short time ago I announced I wouldn’t be restanding at the Youth Parliament to allow me to focus
I would like to wish a happy retirement to
@EllenDo70373804
HT of
@stambrosehigh
. Mrs Douglas was my HT for 6 years at high school. A person who treats every student with compassion, respect and dignity and always shows true leadership in whatever she does.
This is incredible!!
The first minister allowing herself to stay in contact with Care Experienced people to change to system so it means that Children and young are having things happen for them instead of things being taken away from them. This truely is a Care revolution.
@denishakilloh
It was very special for me to spend time with you and Beth yesterday. You are an inspiration...and you are making a difference already. See you soon. X
experiences and learn from them and realise that what happened could have been prevented even before it actually happened.
Thank you to everyone who has helped me in the smallest of ways and in the biggest of ways. I am happy and content with life I just hope you are too.
Love is the connection I have in my foster placement for almost a decade. My foster carers are mum & dad to me. From day 1, they’ve treated me like their own & showered me with affection & unconditional love. I appreciate them everyday. They are simply amazing people.

We're under way. Welcome to the

What does love mean you?
Amazing to meet
@mrmarkmillar
tonight
@stambrosehigh
for my prize giving. Superheroes fae Townhead are regular as buses! My foster parents were as proud as superman’s tonight! Tho’ I won’t be wearing ma pants on tights anytime soon...🤓
You may notice that that date above is 8 years to the day. 8 years ago I moved to my current foster family which due to the success I’ve remain as part of their family. They are not my foster carers, they are my mum and dad. I couldn’t have dreamed of a better place to be.
Hi
@agcolehamilton
,
This is where chief mammy comes from, I think you know this or at least you should.
Your column was political opportunism and it’s very disappointing to see!
At today’s Love Rally in Glasgow I was Delighted to be joined by my local MSP Fulton MacGregor. A huge Thank you for supporting
@whocaresscot
aims and the rally. I am grateful of your personal guidance you have given me. I look forward to continuing to work with you!
@fultonsnp
I want to announce that I will alongside
@Helen_MSYP
and
@duncdunlop
attend the United Nations Day of Discussion in Geneva, 2 weeks today. It will focus on the Rights of the child (UNCRC) and I will speak about how they are being respected in society. It is truly a privilege.
Proud to announce that today I have taken up the role of a Good Food Nation Ambassador!
This happens at a crucial time as the Good Food Nation Bill passes through Scottish Parliament.
Hoping to bring my experiences as Food Ambassador and an Act4Food Act4Change campaigner.
It’s time to say a final farewell to the Scottish Youth Parliament! My two year term has officially come to an end. Thank you to everyone who listened to me stand up for my constituents & gave me opportunities to do so. Parliaments now in recess for summer, I am for much longer.
Richard Leonard and Ruth Davidson are continuously not listening to the facts they are being given at
#FMQs
. The FMs answers are clear that Test&Protect is working well. She is not complacent. A technical glitch once doesn’t mean it’s not working well. Complete misrepresentation!
Tonight was a good night!
Senior St Ambrose Awards Night and picked up two awards. One for Pupil Endeavour and the other is the Active Citizenship Award for the second year running.
The words in the background are very fitting.
@stambrosehigh
I can’t thank you enough!📗😊🏆
don’t get the opportunity to see their siblings or live with them once they move into care. I have had so many chances to raise this on many platforms and I have done it with pride and determination.
I was a kid from The Gorbals and now I am me.
I am proud of my care experience.
An honour to be at
#COY16
in Glasgow ahead of COP26. Brilliant discussions so far and pleased to hear amazing commitments from other countries across the globe on how we reduce global temperatures by 1.5C and ultimately achieve NetZero by 2030.
So it dawned on me today that perhaps because I enjoy politics it proved that it got in the way of my educational attainment. Yeah, stressed I was. I was however, proud that I achieved Higher English, something I never thought I’d get. Mixed bag of results! My future pending..
Can finally say that I have enough credits to proceed onto year 2 of my Law LLB degree at Strathclyde University, having passed 5/6 of the modules. Can announce the university have asked me to join the student experience committee on widening access as a care experienced student.
I visited the Scottish Parliament today to speak in a cross-party discussion around participation within the year of young people 2018. I was representing Who Cares? Scotland and the 1000 voices campaign. It was great to see some old, current and new faces in the room.
#YOYP2018
26th September.
A day of which two significant events have happened in my short life.
1) I met the First Minister of Scotland for the first time on this day 3 years ago.
2) I spoke about my experience of care at the United Nations in Geneva 1 year ago.
I am grateful! 😀
In 1 weeks time, Wednesday 5th February, I’m hoping to wake up to history being made. State care to be revolutionised! Where it doesn’t prevent you from future employment, or restrict a persons rights but has Love at its centre. I helped call for a care review, time for delivery!
Yesterday I done something I never imagined I thought I would do, a young boy original from Glasgow speaking infront of other young people making massive changes to the world around us. Almost 7 years ago, I entered care again which changed my life and confidence.
Wow!
@JohnSwinney
speech moving his amendment in the tories education debate was exceptional! Highlighting Tory hypocrisy and showing the Scottish electorate that the snp are miles ahead of other parties in Scotland. Various policies in which Scotland’s Govt has shown leadership!
I like the phrase, “People make Glasgow” but today I want to start
“Young People make Scotland.”
We can achieve anything we want. I feel inspired.
Will you join with me to reinforce this phrase.
#YoungPeopleMakeScotland
Who Cares? Scotland’s Love Rally has just been in the main STV News Bulletin. I was on the TV alongside members of the organisation and MSYPs. So proud!

The Children (Equal Protection from Assault)(Scotland) Bill is passed. I am very proud to have influenced this bill and personally giving so much time towards it. We are Getting it Right for EVERY Child! Scotland, thank you! Also massive thanks to members of the Committee!
As many of you will know I was elected to the Youth Parliament and served my term for around 2 years. The person who helped me with everything was
@euanmgraham
. He is sadly leaving
@whocaresscot
and his last day is today. Euan helped me develop into the person I am today.
In and out of the system since I was born and that day so that change. Yes, I’m in the care system but due to the overwhelming love and support shown to me, I everyday feel like I’m not and it has strengthened my development and allowed me to strive. I have had my voice heard.
Also this week, it will be exactly 2 years since the First Minister
@NicolaSturgeon
came into the Who Cares? Scotland National Office were I spoke to her about the importance of love. Additionally how Love has to be fundamental in the care system.
1 year ago, I had my final Scottish Youth Parliament engagement. It allowed me to think about the contributions I had made for care experienced people.
A year on, I have developed into a young adult and was able to gain my NC6 Social Sciences!
Today, I’m proud of myself!
Earlier today, I heard that my brilliant MSP had mentioned me in the Stage 1 UNCRC Incorporation Bill debate but I didn’t think it was like heartfelt. Watched it back and was nearly left in tears..would have been tears on joy for sure.
@fultonsnp
Anyways, onto stage 2! 😁
‼️ANNOUNCEMENT‼️
On Sunday 20th October I will be taking part in the Scottish International Storytelling Festival. I will be a living book which means that I will be talking about my experiences of care and my place within society.
If you would to know more, come along!!

“The opportunity ahead of you First Minister is to become the ultimate human rights defender, by incorporating the UNCRC fully into Scots Law within this Parliamentary term”
My call to
@scotgov
at Human Rights Day 2018. Today you committed to it. This is essential!
Thank you!
Tonight I’m at the

discussions at Parliament tonight as a human rights defender, care experienced activist and ACEs cross party group member. Definitely fascinating! Let’s incorporate the

I was given alongside my brother many other families before this date 8 years ago but it never just clicked, always something just not right about it, until, I walked into somewhere I knew within minutes I could call home. However, I’m still a minority as too many young people
Delighted to announce that I have been elected as Political Education Officer for

at today’s AGM.
A role I take on at a very timely point, 3 months before Mays Election!
Powerful remarks made by

This is the most sense I’ve heard about the Brexit shambles, funnily enough it comes from our youth.

Tomorrow in the Scottish Parliament will be monumental. Reconsideration stage and hopefully passage of the UNCRC Scotland Bill.
I’ll be there in the gallery, proud to have campaigned for this for almost a decade, despite the legal challenge.
Might even get a tad emotional!
Today is massive!
@NicolaSturgeon
, I think you are about ‘to become the ultimate Human Rights Defender’.
A true champion for Scotland’s Children and Young People and leading the rest of the UK.
Thank you First Minister. 😀
The United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child (Incorporation) (Scotland) Bill is to reach Stage 3 consideration with a formal debate and possible passage on Tuesday 16th March 2021.
A day that I have long campaigned for with other youth activities across Scotland.
Due to my weird curiosity I decided to cross the road at my uni library before an exam & for the last time in his term, meet the children and young peoples commissioner,
@Bruce_Adamson
.
He taught me how to be a human rights defender! I feel I have tried my best over the years.
I’m pleased today to anoounce that I am standing for the Scottish Youth Parliament again for the term 2019-2021. I wish to be re-elected by members of Who Cares? Scotland.
A wee video for today’s Stage 3 on the UNCRC Bill.
Thank you to everyone who has campaigned with me for this bill and to strengthen it over the past number of months. Big thanks to the Scottish Government for this vital step incorporating the convention into our domestic law!
I’m a care experienced student and I don’t have the certainty of going back to work during the summer. Therefore a lack of income through these months. Over the last week I have received messages about a

I support it!
With

So today I am in college and I have watched Harry Burns’ TEDx talk in Glasgow and again it reminds me of what my purpose in life is. To stand up for those missing a voice, giving them a sense of purpose and preaching that early childhood can be impacted with adversity.

Many of you will know that I spoke at the United Nations in Geneva. The link to my speech is below and I’m sure you will want to watch it.
I begin at around 34 mins in and finish around the 40 mins mark.
Any feedback will be kindly appreciated.
See, we are getting there!
I know that today would have been amazing and I’m not even there.
Both Maree and Nicola have taken the 1000 voices commitment very seriously as seen again today.
@NicolaSturgeon
you must be nearing 900/1000?
Thank you to all the children & young people who spoke so powerfully to myself &

today about children’s rights and the care system. We are determined to make sure your rights are respected & upheld. Your voice makes us strong.

Proud to announce that as of this week, I have become a UK Food Ambassador. Having done a lot of work locally and nationally around poverty and food insecurity/inequality I feel its very timely that this role has arisen.

Delighted to announce I’ll be speaking at the Conference Of Youth 16 in Glasgow in the days running up to COP26. Speaking all things climate change, air pollution, cities and food systems.
Delighted that
@scotgov
are funding this event as the UK Govt failed to commit to doing so
Delighted to announce that as part of a small delegation of other UK Children's Right to Food Ambassadors, I'll be visiting Nairobi, Kenya for 5 days on Monday.
I'll be representing Scotland as part of the Act4Food Act4Change campaign to discuss food systems & climate crisis.
I’m often asked why I get involved with all the things I do and it come down to what these three pictures are and what they say.
The UNCRC, the most important document a child or young people should engage with in Scotland.
Why? Their rights are outlined in it.
Today’s I’ll be delighted to join fellow campaigners such as these above in hopefully seeing the Children (Equal Protection from Assault)(Scotland) Bill pass at stage 3.
No child should be punished with physical harm. Today we have a chance to show the world that we lead the way

Even seeing a minute of Charlotte speak who is a fellow care experienced person I know that cycles will be broken. I too, want to break the cycle/chain of uncertainty that my family experienced. Care has given me the opportunity to do this but I’m a rare case. I stand not to be.
WATCH: "I feel an immense amount of pressure to break that cycle."

This was because my social worker told me that the caring responsibilities to my younger brother would end and I was delighted. They had found a couple willing to care for me and my brother in North Lanarkshire, not Glasgow. It was hard and we didn’t want to be spilt up.
