Today is a day of remembrance in Saragosa, Texas as 35 years ago, the deadliest West Texas tornado struck the small town. We’ll always remember the 30 lives lost in Saragosa on this tragic day and all of those impacted by the devastating tornado.

Flash flooding caused many drivers to be temporarily stuck as the storm departed. It’s best to remain on the road if you get caught in a shallow flash flood like this one. If you’re able to track life-threatening thunderstorms, it’s best to stay away from them, of course.

The cold frontal haboob can be seen on this GOES-E satellite image at 6:16 PM Central time, crossing the SE tip of New Mexico at a diagonal. Note the lobate structure typical of haboobs at all scales, and the severe thunderstorms building to the East over Central Texas.
