Today our family is mourning the loss of Linda Ruder, both my mother-in-law and the special woman
@SarahDInKC
and I have honored with charity softball events since 2016. She was given 6-12 months in June 2015 and battled 5 years. All 139 of us that have played are hurting today!
Number of career interceptions when they threw TD pass
#100
John Elway: 95
Eli Manning: 75
Peyton Manning: 69
Jameis Winston: 68
Brett Favre: 65
Drew Brees: 63
Joe Montana: 54
Tom Brady: 53
Dan Marino: 44
Philip Rivers: 43
Aaron Rodgers: 34
Patrick Mahomes: 19
The Chiefs had $177 in cap space and they paid Jones, restructured Watkins, re-signed Moore/Breeland/Robinson, and gave Mahomes half a billion dollars lol. Build Veach a statue
Patrick Mahomes against Bill Belichick defense this year:
71 points
7 touchdown passes
31 points in the second half of EACH game
Had the lead with 6:00 left in BOTH games
The man deserved so much better than two losses.
Points scored against the Rams this year:
Patrick Mahomes - 51
Aaron Rodgers - 27
Tom Brady - 13
You'll never guess which of those QBs won their games against the Rams.
(HINT - it's the luckiest athlete in the history of sports)
the chiefs fans harassing patrick mahomes' girlfriend aren't bright, are they? the fanbase waited 50 years for a franchise qb, let's not harass the superstar qb's girlfriend please
I can't believe people are anything but heartbroken for Alex Smith. That's one of the best dudes that has ever worn a Chiefs uniform. He repped KC with the best of them and handed the torch to Mahomes in as classy and professional of a way as possible. Devastated for him.
Getting really sick of Tyreek Hill getting crushed every time somebody else gets in trouble.
Tyreek has done everything right for nearly five years now. He’s made the most of his second chance. His name does not belong in the conversations it’s brought up in.
And when the dust settled, Patrick Mahomes, who everybody said couldn’t stop throwing interceptions, threw just one more pick on 78 more passes than he did in 2018. /shrug
25,000 Chiefs fans from the “toxic” fanbase drove to Nashville to watch that team get steamrolled, and the players get on Twitter and act befuddled that people are unhappy with the way they’re playing. Imagine being a professional athlete and being bothered by this crap.
This stretch by the Chiefs feels an awful lot like when the Patriots would start 1-2 and everyone would claim this is the end of the dynasty. And then they’d go 12-4 and make the Super Bowl.
The Chiefs led the Patriots 33-30 in the 4th
The Chiefs led the Rams 51-47 in the 4th
The Chiefs led the Chargers 28-14 in the 4th
Could Bob Sutton manage a single stop to win ANY of those games? YOU BET YOUR BOTTOM DOLLAR HE CAN'T
NFL players with more career catches than Julian Edelman:
Jeremy Maclin, Deion Branch, Jerricho Cotchery, Mike Wallace, Vincent Jackson, Eddie Kennison, Greg Jennings...
No, Edelman is not a Hall of Famer. No, he's not even close. Stop it.
The Orioles and Royals were baseball’s two worst teams in 2018.
Baltimore now has a winning record and the No. 1 farm system. The Royals are 20+ under .500 and are ranked No. 30.
Pitiful. Stop giving these people promotions and clean the frigging house out already.
Here is an update on
@jbbrisco
- his mom gave me approval to share this on Twitter. So happy to see the progress he’s made. There was no doubt that he would fight well and fight hard. Keep the Brisco family in your thoughts and prayers!
I am a Royals fan. But they're not good enough to pull off the "if we don't get our way we're out of here!" card. We don't care, John. Play at the K or take your corrupt mustache elsewhere. The town with Patrick Mahomes will be just fine without 61-101 on repeat every summer.
Dayton Moore has 3 winning seasons in 16 years and this is pacing to be his worst team yet. He can’t draft. His free agency signings suck. His trades are awful. He mismanages the roster and plays favorites based on faith and family. He’s horrendous at his job. Move on.
This is funny. Chiefs fans deserve this after all the crap they've (rightfully) talked to everyone else in the division. Just like the Tyreek Hill peace in the Super Bowl. Gotta wear it when things don't go well.
Chiefs fans: "WE ARE CHIEFS KINGDOM! NOISE RECORDS! TAILGATING! SHOWING UP EARLY!" WE'RE THE BEST FANS IN FOOTBALL!"
*Mahomes gets hurt and 50% of the stadium is Vikings fans*
Chris Jones: "Man I thought this was Chiefs Kingdom"
Chiefs fans: "HOW DARE HE CALL OUT THE FANS"
Dayton Moore: “I’m proud that our guys can play Kansas City Royals baseball the right way for our fans and our city.”
25 games under .500.
Pacing for 95 losses.
13 non-winning seasons in 16 years.
Stop. Just stop. Enough of this BS.
Shohei Ohtani currently leads the Angels in doubles, triples, home runs, RBI, total bases, walks, OBP, and slugging. He also leads them in innings pitched, strikeouts, and ERA.
I mean what even, how is this guy legal
It's beating a dead horse at this point, but I want to know why the Royals are starting both Jorge Soler and Hunter Dozier, the AL's worst two players, in the outfield while refusing to call up Edward Olivares, who is obliterating AAA pitching. It truly doesn't make any sense.
The Royals could have traded Whit Merrifield at the midway point of 2019 and gotten a ton. He had just signed a 4 year/16 mil extension at age 30, 2x AL hit leader, 2x AL stolen base leader. Instead, they kept him to "contend" and are 72 games under .500 since, and he blows now.
Please, Chiefs. Please kill the Colts. Please destroy and embarrass them.
Do it for 2 year-old Ryan. And 8 year-old Ryan. And 11 year-old Ryan. And 18 year-old Ryan.
You can’t pay Tyrann Mathieu. And it’s not because he’s not worthy of it. This team needs so many changes made and they can’t afford to tie down a huge batch of more cash on one player. Thank him for his three great years and, god forbid, draft a quality player to replace him.
KCTV5's "reporting" and airing of the Tyreek Hill story, cherry-picking that audio clip with the portions that paint him as the bad guy, was completely disgraceful. They didn't air the full clip because it didn't fit their narrative.
The Royals were 26-46 on June 27. They then started calling up young guys, beginning with Vinnie Pasquantino on that day. They're 22-22 since. Amazing how young, promising rookies have done better than lousy, aging veterans!
Five years ago, the Royals were the only franchise in baseball that had never had a 40 home run hitter.
Now, they're about to have a player lead the majors in home runs two times in three years.
Crazy.
The Royals not trading Whit Merrifield is one of the biggest mistakes of the Dayton Moore era. It never made any sense to keep him. He was a star for 90-loss team after 90-loss team. He could have instead brought you big pieces for the future.
What, 6 kicks inside the final 10 seconds he's hit that have either forced OT in or won playoff games for KC?
- New England 2018 forced OT
- Buffalo 2021 forced OT
- Cincinnati 2021 forced OT
- Cincinnati 2022 won game
- Philadelphia 2022 won game
- San Francisco 2023 forced OT
The 2023 World Series consists of two of three worst teams in baseball from just two years ago.
When the Royals tell you it takes years and years to rebuild, don’t listen to them. It’s very possible to execute it much faster. You just need competence, which the Royals lack.
Also, Royals fans should want to see Whit Merrifield traded so he can actually play in the playoffs. There aren’t many players in baseball that deserve to play for a contender more than Whit. He deserves so much better than the Royals. Trading him is best for all parties.
MJ Melendez and Bobby Witt Jr. are terrific players. If only they had a couple more dudes tearing up Omaha that could play instead of Ryan O’Hearn and Carlos Santana!
If you have to pinch hit for your clean-up hitter when the bases are loaded, it probably means that the guy you had batting clean-up has absolutely no business hitting clean-up to begin with
The Chiefs have four All-Pros this year. Mitchell Schwartz, Mecole Hardman (KR) and Travis Kelce as second-teamers.
Then there’s
@Mathieu_Era
who made first-team as a defensive back and second-team as a safety. Not bad.
Dave Eiland was with the Royals from 2011-17. Their bullpen ERA AL rankings those years: 8th, 4th, 1st, 5th, 1st, 3rd, 9th. All other years in the Dayton Moore era: 15th, 8th, 11th, 15th, 15th, 15th, 14th, 6th, 11th, 15th.
Maybe Eiland is the "bullpen wizard" people think DM is?
The Royals are 12-9 when Brady Singer starts and 39-66 when anyone else starts. He’s pacing to be a 5 WAR player this year. He’s been outstanding. Fill out that rotation around him and let’s ride.
The Tigers were 47-114 in 2019. All of their young talent is coming together.
The Blue Jays were 67-95 in 2019. They're a juggernaut three years later.
Don't believe Dayton Moore's "it takes years to turn it around" narrative. It just takes a competent GM.
If Gavin Cross reaches 1.0 WAR during his career with the Royals, he will take 3rd place among all 19 Dayton Moore first round draft picks since 2011! High bar, folks!
The Royals are getting good again, you guys. The bullpen is nasty. The offense is getting there. The young starters are coming. And Mike Matheny just may be the man for the job. Buckle up, because the next few years are going to be fun.
I'm one of the few that doesn't really want a downtown Royals stadium. Kauffman is great, they just upgraded it, and it's decently close to everything in the metro. A downtown stadium would be expensive and traffic would be hellacious. Keep the K. It's great.
Looking forward to the Royals’ annual 17-10 run in September that drops them from 3rd to 8th in the draft order and has the announcers talking about how they can carry the momentum into next year.
Patrick Mahomes in 5 years:
75 total wins
13+ wins in every season
11 playoff wins
27k passing yards
242 total TDs
Wins against all 30 teams he’s played
5x Pro Bowl
2x All Pro
2x MVP
5x AFC title games at home
3x AFC titles
2x Super Bowls
2x Super Bowl MVPs
Best QB ever.
Ryan Lefebvre to Dayton Moore: “I’m sure the losing has been hard on Salvy, but he looks like he’s having more fun than he ever has!“
A quote that couldn’t get more Royals if you tried. Justifying the losing and making it sound like no sweat. I hate it here
So
@ProFootballTalk
says that KC's losses should fall partly on Mahomes because the QB needs that "big drive" to win big games.
NE: His last pass? 75-yard TD pass that tied it. He didn't get it back.
LAR: Go-ahead TD with 1:50 left.
LAC: Team led for 59:56.
What do you want?
Nick Pratto hit more home runs last night than Ryan O’Hearn has this season. Perhaps that’s enough to move him ahead of O’Hearn in the next batting order? Seems reasonable?
Jake Eisenberg legitimately got more excited for the 32-75 Royals winning three in a row there than Ryan Lefebvre did when Wade Davis K’d Wilmer Flores to clinch the World Series in Queens
I have been friends with
@jbbrisco
since 7th grade. We were at Arrowhead as high school freshmen when Jerome Harrison had 286 yards. As juniors, we watched Tim Tebow throw two passes and still beat the Chiefs. In college, we started an NFL podcast, which was (1/)
If you switched Patrick Mahomes out for any player in the league - literally ANY other player - the Chiefs would have a worse record than they do now. I cannot believe people are blaming him for anything. He is the MVP.
We have sat through some brutal, awful, atrocious Royals teams. But 20-41 is… an all timer. The 2005 team was 24-41. The 2018 team was 21-37. Those were the two worst Royals teams I’d seen before this year. It is indescribable how bad this team is. In year five of a rebuild!
Congratulations to Patrick Mahomes, who passed Norm Van Brocklin, Joe Namath, Charlie Conerly, Steve McNair, and Otto Graham on the all-time pass TD list today. Mahomes, now with 176 career passing TDs, is 66th all-time.
They want $21 to park on a Saturday night to watch Ryan O’Hearn and Hunter Dozier, who have a combined career WAR of -5.0, bat 4th and 5th.
Fire Dayton Moore.
Fire JJ Picollo.
Fire Mike Matheny.
Fire every single one of these rotten, incompetent fools.
I’m sick of the radio guys saying “The Royals were never going to win this year, so fans shouldn’t be upset with every loss.” I’m so tired of this team’s incompetence being excused. Expecting improvement 5 years into a rebuild should NOT be a ridiculous ask. 18-51 is outrageous.
Justin Herbert missed Keenan Allen for what would have been a game-sealing TD. He went 3-and-out on a pivotal drive that wound up being the final 3 plays of the Chargers’ season. He’s 25-25 now in 50 career games. 0 playoff Ws. At some point, you are what your stats say you are.
Mike Matheny just looking out with that dumbfounded look on his face like "huh, my lineup with dozier and o'hearn batting 4 and 5 couldn't beat the best team in the american league, how did that not work?"
Never forget that Lorenzo Cain would have cost half the money Dayton Moore offered to Eric Hosmer to bring back, despite the fact that he was the better player the whole time. He should have been the one they prioritized re-signing the whole time.
Remember when they kept guys like Pratto and Pasquantino down for half the year so we could watch Dozier and O’Hearn play all the time? Turns out the guys that hit dozens of homers in AAA aren’t half bad!
A big, big tip of the cap to Matt Moore, who completed 65% of his passes and threw 4 TDs to 0 turnovers in the absence of Mahomes. The Chiefs went 2-1 without Mahomes. Massive, massive job done by Moore.
The Royals waited too long to trade Whit Merrifield and now he’s hurt right before the one trade deadline they actually considered moving him. Just another day being a fan of a Dayton Moore team!
The Chiefs have done everything right with Tyreek Hill. Everything. They really think he's going to play football for them in 2019, and I'm starting to believe in that more and more each day.
Remember when Greg Gibson told Kelvin Herrera to not throw at Brett Lawrie, and then Herrera threw right at him anyway? And how he threw the pitch so hard it bounced off the backstop and rolled all the way back to the mound?
Whit Merrifield is 4th in hits, Salvador Perez is 1st in homers and RBIs, Nicky Lopez is over .300, and Andrew Benintendi has been as hot as any hitter in the second half of the year. All four are 3.0+ WAR players.
This team has pieces. They just have to push the right buttons.
Carlos Santana’s 18 hits in his first 145 plate appearances are the worst by anyone in all of baseball since… Chris Owings in 2019. Who played for who again?
Massey, Pratto, and Eaton are all guys I want to stay up here after this series. Trade Whit Merrifield. Trade Michael A. Taylor. DFA Ryan O’Hearn. I don’t need everyday player Nicky Lopez. I want to see August lineups of eight guys 25 and younger and Salvador Perez.
Mike Moustakas is a top-10 Royal of all-time. The impact he made on and off the field is immeasurable, and his turnaround was an enormous factor in the Royals reaching a World Series level. He will forever be beloved in Kansas City.
Carlos Correa misplaying a double play ball seven years ago is the only reason that Dayton Moore still has a job. It earned him a decade-long leash and, according to some Royals fans, it should be even longer than that.
I dislike losing, therefore I dislike Dayton Moore.
Jorge Lopez has a 2.0 WAR this year in 36 innings with the Orioles. 0.75 ERA and 0.81 WHIP in 31 games.
You're going to be stunned, but it appears a struggling Royals pitcher got away from Cal Eldred and got better!
The people they keep showing sitting in the snow out at the K are amazing. Nothing short of amazing. Those are the fans that have been watching through the Buddy Bell era.
The Chiefs had over 110 more penalty yards than the Patriots and suffered several phantoms calls throughout the night and we have national shows playing the “did the refs cost the Patriots this game?” narrative the ONE TIME they don’t get ALL the calls. It’s hilarious.
Saturday night at Kauffman Stadium, per ESPN: Shane McClanahan vs. Jordan Lyles. In 100 degree heat.
Anybody who attends with a Royals cap on should be escorted to the nearest mental institution.
Hunter Dozier: *breaks out in 2nd season at third base, hits 279/348/522, royals lose a billion games because pitching sucks*
Everyone: "Let's get some pitching!"
Dayton: "You know what we really need? A third baseman!"
All season: "The Royals need pitching."
8 hours ago: "The Royals need pitching."
/Royals draft lots of pitchers: "Not that much pitching!"
Bullpen blows lead: "The Royals need pitching."
The Royals should:
- DFA Ervin Santana, call up Jackson Kowar
- Send Mike Minor to the bullpen
- Send Brady Singer down to work on a 3rd pitch
- DFA Greg Holland and call up Tyler Zuber
- DFA Jarrod Dyson and let Edward Olivares actually play
In three years, the NFL world will look back on the Tyreek Hill trade and say "what in the world was Miami thinking?"
What a headache. The Chiefs got his cheap years and his best years and shipped him for a king's ransom of picks when he got leverage. They made the right choice.
Here is a stat:
The 2015 Royals bullpen gave up 8 runs in their first 26 games of the year.
The 2018 Royals bullpen gave up 9 runs in their first 5 innings of the year.
Dorian O'Daniel is exactly the kind of player the Chiefs defense needs. Just flies to the ball and finishes. He had multiple plays like this every game in college.
If the Patriots win the Super Bowl, the Chiefs are going to have to open 2019 in freaking Foxborough playing that freaking team again in the Thursday freaking opener
