@ThePrimalDino I see, they would actually use Jupiter to *reduce* the spacecraft’s energy relative to the sun (which causes the spacecraft to speed up again as it falls toward the sun, but yes, they have to take advantage of the Oberth effect to add energy near the perihelion).
