Many, many transit agencies could benefit from management being forced (or at least expected) to "eat your own dog food" rather than treat the product they provide as a social service for someone else.
I truly feel the people who lead and run our transit services should be using them for real day to day. Taking kids to school and daycare. Getting groceries. Going to the gym, sports, parks. Seeing friends. Uber and car should be our last resort.

My ex's grandparents stayed in a four-bedroom, fifth-floor walkup on the LES well into their nineties, long after it was appropriate for their needs or abilities.
Why? Because they moved in in the 60s and had OG rent control.
Cities have lots of family-sized homes, but many are occupied by 1-2 person households. We haven’t grappled with how to enable/encourage older adults to “right size” their housing—some can’t find (or afford) smaller homes in their communities. Also: Prop 13 in CA.

I think that a common misperception is that the, ahem, regulatory innovation by Uber was blatantly evading labor law.
However, in most markets, taxi drivers were already independent contractors. The rules being snubbed were medallions/permits, driver licensing and price setting.
