@SohrabAhmari It’s an analogy for a current political reality and a possible future. The debate concerns the role of women in public life. All of those societies had a radically different view from our own. One still does. You avoid because it’s safer to be anti-capitalist than anti-feminist.

No, the regime will not collapse because you live a 90’s suburban life. Your son’s football team isn’t a mannerbund of esoteric right wingers. If you want hero-worship, then find REAL heroes—don’t turn grilldad into the right’s version of the Single Mother.

all completely wrong. theses are the building blocks and behaviors that make the current regime untenable and then one day like the soviet union it will disappear

Facebook collapse, the Elon takeover, and the general rightward shift of Silicon Valley all show that the time for “talking tough” on Big Tech is passing. The right now needs to beware of turning their talking points into principles that they deploy against their interest.

It's because nobody personally pays for these services. Hotels, airlines, many restaurants, & more live entirely off company cards. Ppl don't care about standards b/c it's not their money. Average person (or non-wage slave) outside the system gets screwed.

I was amazed to see after horror stories RE Hong Kong and Tokyo that you could get a nice hotel downtown in a good area for $50-$80/night... I keep pressing on this point because if you look into reasons why hotels are so scam priced in USA, it reveals a lot..and men just take it

Belle de Jour may be the most incisive movie on sexual relations ever, a topic where truth will always scandalize the bourgeois. Nice women being whores, cucking their doctor husbands with criminals for fun! The dreamlike feel in some scenes is also very convincing

Compare the sexual habits of real aristocrats to conservative Christian Gentlemen. Extreme version is De Sade, but also seen eg in The Leopard (Tancredi finds sex dungeon in abandoned part of the palace), Belle de Jour, or more recently the movie Metropolitan.

Henry Adams on 1850s Boston, noting already a complete absence of inner religious sentiment. How much of the conservative worldview view is built around retconning a faith that scarcely existed?

Cringe as he is, Rod Dreher has an organic audience. His blog gets huge traffic, his books sell tens of thousands of copies. Most “dissident” thought is permutations of the Benedict Option. He expresses broadly shared sentiments on the right and thinking he’s astroturfed is cope.

The Banality of Evil is one of the most pernicious moral doctrines. It tells people incapable of moral reasoning that they might be doing a Holocaust by performing their meaningless job. Its only effect is to make NPCs more prone to hysteria. Acid to a functioning society.

So it turns out that the whole “banality of evil” thing is a crock. They’ve unearthed recordings of Eichmann in Argentina bragging about what he had done. His performance at the trial was BS.

It’s underappreciated how often ethnic conflicts have similar causes. In Burma, as ‘Face of Buddhist Terror’ Ashin Wirathu explains, Burmese anxiety about the Rohingya Muslims is grounded in fears of demographic and cultural displacement caused by their rapidly growing population

Nerds like Cummings shouldn’t get involved in politics. Celebrity and fame are the currency of ambition. He blames those legitimate human motivations for the failure of his little tinkering models to withstand contact with reality—which drove him to a mental breakdown.

Douthat writes political commentary as fan fiction. Even when discussing the recent past he chooses his own creation over real history. Imagine how much worse this tendency is when dealing with the present or projecting into the future.
