How far along is City Council to fulfilling the ABC election campaign pledge that “An ABC Majority will double the number of co-operative (co-op) housing units in Vancouver within the next four years” 2022 to 2026? @Vote4ABC @KenSimCity @sarahkirby_yung

Whatever happened to Cllr Sarah Kirby-Yung’s motion, unanimously adopted in March 2024, TO PRIORITIZE THE USE OF VACANT CITY LAND FOR NEW CO-OP HOUSING?

The City and its development partners will be using City land to build rental housing for households with incomes from $90,000 to $190,000. That’s only a small minority of the City’s renter households, whose median income is $66,500 (2021 census).

ABC City Hall duplicating development by the private sector, but without including below-market-rental BMR units. 4,200 middle-income housing units in the first 5 projects within the new VHDO. 54 & 40-story mixed-use buildings at Pacific/Hornby with 1,136 market rental homes.

An audit of City land sales and exchanges by Vancouver’s Auditor General is currently underway, to be completed in the second quarter of this year.

“because there is only a certain amount of density allowed towers on each block…organizations and family offices, etc, putting applications in to make sure their tower is enshrined in the block” EXACTLY it’s a gold rush for development entitlements.
