There has been a large influx of emails asking me to add [we bought too many Pis and we are selling them now] stores to rpilocator. To which I reply: "Good Luck"
These people are part of the problem. A lot of them bought with the intention of reselling for a higher price.
Twitter's decision to charge for the basic API will mean that DIY projects like this one will be dead. This will affect thousands of Pi projects out there. Literally thousands. Make your voice heard!!
Dear
@Raspberry_Pi
, could you ring fence some extra boards for the maker community for the holidays? It would be great to see some Pi's under more trees this year
Twitter announced that accounts that post up to 1500 tweets a month using the API will not have to pay. So, good news, rpilocator Tweeter notifications are here to stay 🎉
Hey Everyone, as I posted a few days ago, Twitter is making changes to their API policies and prices on Feb 9 and there are no official details as to what these changes will mean to rpilocator's automated notifications 1/2
Fellas, this is
@makerbymistake
. It has been a wild ride. I've learned so much and made so many connections because of rpilocator.
rpilocator, as a notification system, won't be as relevant in the next week's/months but rest assured that the site is not going away. 1/n
I hope rpilocator is considered "good content". I think it's insane to make sweeping changes a core piece of functionality and provide pretty close to no details. Anyway, I have options for you guys (Website, Telegram, Mastodon, RSS feed) but Twitter is where the community is
Since I have your attention. I worry that my pregnant wife won't be able to run if there is a mass shooting around us. This is the type of shit you have to worry about in the US.
A contact at Raspberry Pi recently told me Mouser is now an authorized reseller. I'll be adding them to tracking. In the meantime, looks like they'll be getting a nice shipment of Pi 4 4GB in a week. Back orders accepted. If anyone orders it, let me know how it goes.
#raspberrypi
Update on
@adafruit
. Got information directly from them. They manually review each order and vast majority of Pi's are going to real people. They get bot activity and angry bot owners because they ban their accounts. Send them some love. They have been a solid source of Pi's.
I've talked to many sellers and they all tell me similar things. They are not necessarily bought by a fully automated bot. These boards are going for 3x or 4x times their price so they can afford a human to "automate" things. As usual, humans are the problem.
BTW, if you are new here, this account is ran by a real person. My name is André and my personal account is

I'm just humbled by how well this project has been received. This was a "weekend" project that I created for my own benefit and now it serves tens of thousands of people around the 🌍. Cheers to the
@Raspberry_Pi
community
Getting old is a bit peculiar, I went out especially to buy a copy of
@linuxformat
and I forgot about it.
I had I wanted to read what
@biglesp
was thinking, and before you know it he’s recommending
@rpilocator
on page 7👍😀
Hey all. I'm moving rpilocator to a Pi 4 8GB. To make the transition, rpilocator is going down this weekend and will be back online Sunday night/Monday morning.
Super excited to share more details in the future.
First Rpilocator/ Dphacks !Giveaway!. Your chance to win a Raspberry Pi 4B 8GB and a Camera Module (v3).
I'm giving back to the community!

More details below:
Raspberry Pi says they'll "be out the other side soon" regarding the supply shortages.
What I have gathered is that they plan to have more availability starting early next year.
BTW, it's Wednesday, a great day to buy Pi computers.
@Mirko_DIY
I've got a
#Pi5
booting from NVMe on my desktop right now with our prototype M.2 HAT. The only thing we're promising is that the production version isn't going to look like this. Proper documentation around PCIe connector is coming soon, in the next week or two!
Zero W has been widely available worldwide so I turned off notifications on Twitter, Mastodon, and Telegram.
The Website and the RSS feed will still track the Zero W but no alert notifications on social media 🙏
Notifications for the Zero 2 W and Zero WH are unchanged!
My turn to post a picture. Got this one last week and it arrived today. This is the last one I needed - can't believe I'm actually saying this - and I'll make this into a smart baby monitor, I think 🤔

Have you heard the new Raspberry Pi 5 is out? I've had it in my hands for a week and I put together a hands-on preview of the fastest Raspberry Pi yet.
I just have to post about this again. I made a donation (optional) and downloaded the pdf so I don't have to get it shipped. This thing is GLORIOUS! I don't know any other tech/electronics maker that puts out content like this.

Word on the street is that large Pi 4 allocations will start shipping late August/early September with smaller shipments trickling in until then. Haven't heard re. CM4, sorry.
Sorry to inform the website is still struggling and although tracking is working update times are running really long, meaning notifications are not timely or might not even catch a product in stock
Last meaningful wave of Pi 4s was early February/over a month ago. Even stores that had Pi 4 kits in stock have been sold out for a couple of weeks. Hopefully more soon. That's what we want!! (and Zero 2 W and CM4s)
OK, I have spent way too much time working on an Analytics page for rpilocator. Needs lots of tweaks and it will probably evolve as I see how things progress. Data will be updated on Sundays. Hope you guys like it.
A handful of SBC makers had a chance to steal a good chunk of RPis market share during the shortage, and they absolutely blew it...
More RAM!!!!! Is just an example of missing the point of why RPi is so popular.
Best to way to buy from Adafruit is to have everything setup beforehand (2FA, login to account, login to PayPal). Add everything you want to a Wishlist. Go to your wishlist around 11am eastern and hit refresh. When Pi is in stock, hit the add all to cart and checkout 1/2
I think this is the first time that rpilocator crossed 1M impressions in a month. You all clicked on links on my Tweets 4.2K times just yesterday. Mind boggling.
(the percentage growth is definitely wrong, I usually get around 800k impressions a month)
Hey Everyone, as I posted a few days ago, Twitter is making changes to their API policies and prices on Feb 9 and there are no official details as to what these changes will mean to rpilocator's automated notifications 1/2
Site Change Alert: I'll start blocking abusive use of the site. I've been lenient in the past but I see scripts hitting the site every second, which is not sustainable.
It's kinda crazy how the US market just absorbs all the Pi 4 that comes in stock.
Mind boggling really. PiShop and Adafruit have been putting (together) around 500 boards in the market on weekdays and around 200 on weekends. This has been going on for a while.
Now that most Pi boards are available, there's very little interaction on this account.
I've been thinking about which direction to take. I want to provide value to the Pi community and Pi users.
🤔 Let me know what your thoughts are!
@geerlingguy
got in touch with
@Raspberry_Pi
and provided an update on chip shortage. Shortage is still ongoing (we know ;)) and blog post from April is still relevant.
What have we learned this week?
- Pi Zero W is broadly available
- Some Pi 4B availability and more promised for Q3
- Pi 4 B price in the third-party market is falling
- Still no Pi Zero 2 W, more later in the year
- You DO NOT piss off the archive people!
Fun fact. I use the same notifications as everyone else. I've been using Telegram. Today, I heard my phone buzz and guessed it was rpilocator. Opened the site right away, saw the 8GB CM4. Baby was on my lap and had to type one-handed on the laptop. Still managed to checkout. 1/3
Just wanted to remind everyone that I don't get any money or kickbacks from the vendors I track. I only get money from the Amazon affiliate links I have on the top of the page and the ever so humbling donations I get through Ko-Fi.
Cheers!!
I'm gonna low-key drop this here for my twitter followers only. Consider this a special update.
RPi CM4 - 4GB RAM, 16GB MMC, With Wifi. If you want to buy me a Coffe, I won't complain :)
I'm going to be on the 100th episode of
@tomshardware
The Pi Cast. I'll be sharing how rpilocator got started and a few tips on how to find Raspberry Pi Computers in stock + talk about my other projects. Sept 20 @ 7pm BST / 2pm ET / 6pm UTC
You might notice that some stores are not updating right now. That is because some of them are using CloudFare's bot blocking features. I'm working with some of the stores to get them updated again and some I'm just circumventing the bot blocking features 😄
For all the hardcore rpilocator users out there; There's a subdomain for each device category now. Still testing and will add this to menu
cm3, cm4, pi3, pi4, pizero, and pizero2 are valid subdomains and they filter all other devices out by default.
Ex.:
Tips for buying from Adafruit: create an account, fill out all the info and make sure to setup 2FA. You will not be able to buy a Pi without 2FA. Log out!! You have to log out, it's in the instructions ;)

It works, doesn't it? Sometimes I'm actually surprised at how well it works. Something I just bodged together for myself is being used by thousands of people 😄😄
@rpilocator
Got one, 1st time ever I have turned on browser notifications but it ended up being clutch. Everyone also needs to set up 2fa & payment method ahead of time and remain logged in. I wish it would reserve in my cart so I could have ordered other stuff but that's life I guess :)
What have we learned this week?
Not much different than a couple of weeks ago: There's a decent supply of Pi 4B in the market but not enough for the demand. CM4s have been showing up here and there. Zero 2 W is a ghost... 1/3
It's happening!
Some
@microcenter
locations seem to have Pi 4 in stock even though they don't always show online (or on
@rpilocator
)
And apparently if you try ringing up more than one, the 2nd shows as $10,000 (to prevent scalping).

I have to mention
@WorldBollard
, probably the best social media account of all times. Unconditional love for bollards and utter despise for BMW drivers. Not a bad combo 😜
I see a lot of people saying there are better SBC's out there. But which other SBC maker is publishing (free) content like this and providing the software support that
@Raspberry_Pi
provides?
It's that time of the year again already...
The Raspberry Handbook 2023 is out NOW.
204 pages of essential Raspberry Pi and Raspberry Pi Pico know-how is available to buy from the Raspberry Pi Press online store or to download for free.
What have we learned this week?
Shortage is still on. A batch of 2GB Pi 4 B's is going around the world. Some shops have 4GB as part of a kit. I really wish
@Raspberry_Pi
had some sort of disincentive for selling Pi's in a kit. Kubii had Zero 2 W in stock for a few short minutes
Things have been slow on the rpilocator side of things but the Pi 4 situation is slowly improving. Many sellers have Pi 4B kits in stock.
Not sure if less engagement on Twitter is due to lower interest or changes in Twitter's algorithm. Traffic on rpilocator's website is normal
I'm trying to create a chart of restocks. I have 3 variables: day of the week, product model, and number of occurrences. Anyone has a cool idea about visual representation? Existing examples would be great!
The good folks at
@adafruit
let me know they are loosening their policy and you will be able to buy one Pi per day. It's already in their TOS and they will be updating other pages soon. 2/2
If I have helped you find a Pi, consider buying me a coffee. I spend a lot of time talking to vendors and working on the site so you can find a Pi in stock. As always, I appreciate all the support I have received so far.

Pi 4B Update Megathread:
Things are looking up and it will be busy today. Both Pimoroni and ThePiHut will have large drops of Pi 4B (and a potential 3rd store). All the details in this thread 1/n
@Raspberry_Pi
#pi4
#pi4b
Got a delivery of my first Pi 4B 8GB from
@Maker_Bright
today. I got too excited when ordering and added the wrong camera though. I wanted the NoIR version. Will probably do a giveaway of the camera.
It's interesting that a lot of tech outlets/YT channels had pieces on how hard it was to get a Pi throughout the shortage but only very few of them had an update about the recent increase in availability. Ppl being ppl, I guess.
Early in the year, I said I wasn't going to make any more predictions. Then, last week I made a prediction. Of course, I got it wrong again. This has been the week with most Pi restocks since I started rpilocator. Cheers.
I think next week will be pretty quiet. Raspberry Pi close their offices between Christmas and NY, so they won't be shipping anything late next week. There could be stock on the way to sellers that arrive next week, but you know how shipping is around the holidays.
What have we learned this week?
- 3 different stores (possibly more) had Pi Zero 2 W's in stock
- Retailers have been focusing on selling kits to curb scalping
- Adafruit continues to be a great source of Pi 4 B's with weekly restocks
I'm seeing a lot of people talking about NY resolutions, how to get things done, projects for 2023. For the folks out there that think this is overwhelming: you are not alone. Quiting a project half way through because it's not working out is not a flaw, it's a virtue. 1/3
After a good wave of availability late last year/early this year restocks have slowed down again. Last time rpilocator had no green lines (now) was a couple of months ago. Hate to say it, but if you are dying for a Pi, there's a better chance of getting one as a Kit right now 1/3
Based on my *limited* data, things aren't really improving yet. Raspberry Pi says supply should improve in Q3 of this year. Fingers crossed.
Some basic analytics below:
