How it started vs how it ended. QRT with your own.
There can be a lot of self-doubt and insecurities starting something new. It’s part of the process. But if you lean into your passions and remind yourself why you started—it can help carry you over that finish line. 🍻
How it started vs how it ended. QRT with your own.
Trust the process.
This is old, but it bears repeating. Your stuff is gonna look ugly or basic for a while, but early on in a project, or your career, you're building a foundation. Push past that stage and doubt.
I was impacted by layoffs today. It’s a tough time but I'm staying positive and am excited for the future and the potential projects I can contribute to next! So if you have any leads or just want to connect please reach out! Willing to consider relocation too!

Where are all the Environment Artist job postings at? Specifically remote ones. Is it just me or are we silently trending back to on-site work? I mean, I’ll personally move anywhere for the right opportunity but given the state of the industry—asking people to relocate is rough.
I recently had the opportunity to interview with
@80Level
about my journey into 3D and how I approached creating MJ's Apartment in UE4!
Here's a link to the complete article:

I'll bet Phil just says "They're garbage people who shouldn't share the same air as us!" and moves on. 😂 I've been watching him long enough.
Hey

community, what’s the best advice you have for someone who is starting their first job as an Environment Artist at your studio? Can even be something you wish you knew when you first started. Asking for a friend .. ☺️
@artkailin
Hi I’m Roy! Environment Artist working at Lost Boys Interactive. Been low key on socials lately but always around scoping out peoples work. I make props, textures, stuff and things. In my free time I mostly learn more tools to improve my workflow. 🍻
@kommanderkarl
So when is the Kommander Karl game releasing? You know .. that new FPS where an ordinary man has the power to turn all his home appliances into powerful weapons to fend off an alien attack and save the world? Let’s goooooo 🤣

These were some other combat spaces I blocked out in an effort to design more stealth options for the player. Geo placement was a bit tight though and some of the cover was hard to read, but it was still fun designing these concepts!

Finally reading
@avantgame

Past two weeks have been brutal—but we finally moved into a new place and got the family all settled in. Office is nearly done too! Can’t wait to share some new personal projects soon! 🤙🏻
❤️ Love this. This is why game devs across the industry cringe a little when hearing “I have a great idea for a video game.”
Ideas are great and cost nothing, execution however .. it’s a lot. Even for something as seemingly small as this. 🤣

It’s a few months old now but still super proud of it! MJ’s Apartment rendered in UE4 😊

You know them good feels you get after a job interview where you all just vibed really well? 'Cause that's what I'm feeling. Such good vibes, fingers crossed 🤞
Just got laid off from work. Can’t say I didn’t see it coming given the state of the world—but I’m determined to turn it into a positive by applying the extra time into practicing skills for the next job. 💪🏻
Just a friendly reminder that it’s never to late to try something new, to chase a dream or to just start over. Keep doing what makes you happy and if you haven’t found it yet, don’t stop searching ❤️🍻
You ever catch yourself wanting to play a game you already played a dozen times and get frustrated that you have so many other games in your back log that you can play for the first time—yet still settle on the game you played already before?
Well anyway, I’m playing FF7R again.

! So inspiring seeing all this amazing art getting created by insanely cool people! ❤️
I’m still fumbling my way into this career so I don’t have enough work to surround myself with like other posts 🤣 so here’s a screenshot instead! 🍻
Well this tweet really took off. 😅 Happy to see I wasn’t the only one bummed about The Mouse Guard getting canceled. But it seems like we might be getting a Redwall series on Netflix which is just as cool! So there’s something to look forward to now 😊🍻
Crunch is bad, even as a student. I have no professional experience in the games industry, but burned out more than once developing skills and finishing portfolio work. I learned it’s not worth it and worked to find balance. You only hurt yourself with 10+ hour work days. Stop it
Wow! Thank you so much
@80Level
for selecting MJ's Apartment as one of the top picks for Best Environment Breakdowns of 2022! It's an honor! Congratulations to all the awesome environments on this list! Check them out!

If you are wondering why Helldivers 2 is getting so popular and people love it? Here is is a good list:
- Game launched at $40 with a lot of content
- Devs hade such a good communication with the community
- It reminds you of the 360/ps3 era of pure co-op fun
- The gameplay

Can’t stress the importance of this enough. Getting back into an exercise routine has really helped me balance a lot of this. Going for walks around the block is something I’m going to start just because of how refreshing it can be. Be kind to yourself, take care of yourself ❤️
This

I would like to remind all

students that self-care & being kind to yourself are really important. Make time to chill, watch anime, go for a walk, meet up with friends, play some games. If I can ever help, just message me ❤️
When I wanted to switch careers, I was told it was “too late” to go back to school and get a degree. So it’s been out of pure spite that I’ve been proving them wrong ever since. Going back to school helped begin a journey that I will forever be grateful for. It’s never too late.
#SeaofSolitude
captured my heart and I admire
@CorneliaGeppert
and her team for carefully crafting these delicate metaphors of anxiety and depression into this game. It's a beautiful illustration of mental hardships that anyone who is human can understand or relate with.❤️
We don't want to forget our Masters Program Graduates! This is Amy Bennett with Dr. Lilly Steiner. Amy graduated with her Masters in Literacy for a total of nine in that program who graduated today. Congratulations to all of our graduates today!

If you told me a year ago that I'd have a game on Steam, 5 Course Director awards and an Advanced Achievement Award with my degree in Game Design, I'd call you crazy. But here we are and I'm stunned at how far I've come this year. Happy holidays!

Started a new project. Most ambitious one yet. All references gathered. Preproduction planning nearly complete. Almost ready to fire up Maya and UE5. Deep breaths. 😮💨
In other news,
@PugetSystems
coming through with a solid build for me. 💪 Can't wait to get up and running with this rig and retire my poor laptop. Rendering and working in 3D has become a slog. But soon not anymore! Thanks guys! 🍻
@UnrealEngine
I’ve studied level design, game design/development and have recently been specializing in 3D Environment Art for games. I hope to bring all my skills to a team and work together to make something epic!
