How on earth will the US continue to be a major player in science and technology with these cuts? How would we have gotten to the moon? Forged the Manhattan Project? We're giving away our birthright as a leader of the modern age so Elon Musk can look cool online.
The NIH announced it will slash billions of dollars of support to universities and research centers. This is one of the biggest attacks on science we have ever seen. It could dismantle the biomedical research system, shut down clinical trials, and halt development of treatments.

@THerbert_03 The vast majority of homeowner lots will be cleared well before 12 months. EPA has already completed phase one toxic debris removal on many lots. And the opt-in is easy, I did it in 15 minutes. Other than that, sure.

Musk can't cut $2 trillion from the budget without gutting Medicare and Social Security OR gutting defense spending. One of those definitely isn't happening, which means the other one will. Or Musk will fail. That's the math, everything else is just rummaging for change.

Musk was interviewed by David Rubenstein remotely because he said his work with Trump and DOGE has led to "death threats," said a person in the audience. He said expects DOGE to cut $2 trillion from the government budget and he's working night and day, so much in fact, he said he's sleeping on the couch. He said he expects his DOGE/White House work to last about four months, people there say. It was a wide-ranging address where he spoke for 40 mins, went through his childhood and to what he's doing now with Trump, who, he speaks to incessantly. Conference was put on by Mary Erdoes, head of $JPM's wealth management division, and included heavyweights from across biz and government. Story developing

@cgrockstar74 You could have just stopped at "I have no idea." The federal response to the CA fires has been excellent. Has it been perfect? Of course not. But if you think FEMA just hands out million dollar checks to homeowners, you're wrong.
