The Central DeWitt boys cross country team moves up six spots from last year to eighth in 3A (257 points). Senior Caleb Olson led the way, taking 25th, Kyle Olson was 62nd, Adam Wilke 71st, Keegan Peterson 77th, Lucas Johnston 105th, Liam Kinrade 112th and Parker Petsche 113th.

Central DeWitt freshman Ashlyn Appleby closes out her first prep season with a top-50 finish in 3A. The Saber clocks in at 19:56.5 to place 47th overall.

We open up November by closing the area fall prep season with today's state cross country meet. Central DeWitt freshman Ashlyn Appleby is set to compete in 15 minutes, the Sabers boys will follow at 11:15. It is brisk, but, unlike last year, no danger of snowflakes. Thanks sun!

The Central DeWitt boys cross country team is heading back to the 3A state meet. The Sabers put three in the top 15 to finish second at today's state qualifier at Solon. In addition, freshman Ashlyn Appleby earned an individual spot in the girls race by placing ninth overall.

We've had a gaggle of cross country teams here at the Jim Hetrick Invitational taking advantage of a beautiful day for racing.

Wanted to beat my bib number, 9439 (1:34.39), in the Bix 7 today. Final result: 1:34.21. Could've hot dogged a little more.

Northeast closes out the year with a win, 8-2, over West Monona. The Rebels score three in the third after falling behind 2-1, then pick up home runs by Leah Mangelsen and Madison Kluever to finish off their victory.

A little later than scheduled (apparently, it rains in north central Iowa, too), the Northeast softball team closes out the area's 2024 summer season with a 2A consolation contest with West Monona.

Tough day for the Rebels. Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont breaks a 1-1 tie with five unanswered runs, limits Northeast to three hits in a 6-1 victory. The Rebels will play tomorrow in a consolation game at 12:15.

It's time for the second game in our area's state doubleheader. The Northeast softball team takes on Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in a 2A quarterfinal.

The game's first run doesn't come until the seventh and it's scored by Wahlert. The Sabers fall in a true pitchers' duel (seven combined hits), 1-0.

Bixby comes up with the Sabers' first hit with a double to deep center, but still scoreless heading to the bottom of the fourth.

Wahlert gets the game's first hit, but Bixby answers with a strikeout and a 1-3 put-out. Still scoreless after two.

Both pitchers work a hitless first inning. Sabers starter Kyle Bixby did reach in the top of the first on an error, while his courtesy runner, Colton Sawyer, stole second.

How about a little state baseball for breakfast? We're about five minutes from the start of Central DeWitt's 3A quarterfinal with Dubuque Wahlert at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids.

Due to a weather delay, the Sabers' 3A quarterfinal game originally slated for tonight has been moved to tomorrow morning.

The Central DeWitt baseball team is state bound. The Sabers knock off Davenport Assumption, 10-2, to qualify for next week's 3A tournament in Cedar Rapids.

The Northeast softball team is returning to the 2A state tournament after a 4-2 victory tonight over Durant. All the game's scoring came in the fifth inning with the Rebels erasing a 2-0 deficit on a grand slam by senior Madison Kluever.

So, follow their lead and celebrate: America... freedom... fireworks... hot dogs... thousands of pictures with the word "Proof" on them.
