Irish people: "we want to remain neutral and unaligned, but also want other nations to defend us on an non-reciprocal basis".

Varadkar and Micheal Martin have got the tone exactly right on Gaza; while SF struggle with a coherent message and evolving policy and People before Profit utterly debase ans shame themselves. Higgins was also measured and balanced.

Baffled by this country. We openly celebrate a violent revolutionary past (moreso than many other peer nations) but yet are totally squeamish about spending any money to ensure our sovereignty is protected. Worse, many will celebrate Provo terrorists, but denigrate the DF.

@VivekKhashu @sima_kotecha @thetimes I like the way you ignore the presence of a constant build up of Russian forces (as shown by independent sources) since October because that doesn't support your hot take.

This deranged Qanon conspiracy nonsense from People before Profit is actually dangerous and utterly offensive to the Gardai & defence forces. Shame on them for coming out with unhinged crap.

We better hope Russia doesn't invade Ireland because I'm not ready for a government headed by Mick Wallace and Chay Bowes.

@BligheDerek You're one of the most toxic people on this site and its no surprise that you regurgitate disproven Kremlin propaganda. Embarrassment that you and your hate got so many votes.

WTF were Leinster thinking playing Celtic Symphony? Someone made a conscious decision to play that and that's worse that a few players singing in a private dressing room after a game. Incredibly idiotic and tone-deaf and reignites a stupid controversy.

I would post about Ireland beating England in the ole Rounders, but some lad in a Celtic Jersey will call me a West Brit for supporting foreign games.

Ah... "West Brit" is trending in Ireland, a change from "Ireland is full". Same energy of course... toxic ultra-nationalism.

A lot of people criticising Met Eireann for not giving a warning are the same people who usually call Met Eireann warnings woke nanny state nonsense.

Never forget Paul Murphy TD & PBP objected to Ireland providing Demining/Ordnance disposal training to Ukraine- Humanitarian assistance. Ukraine is now the most mined country in the world and Paul had an objection to Ireland helping with this.

Quite a few Irish politicians I have disliked over the years for a variety of reasons and I remain implacably opposed to SF, but I have never, ever had the same level of contempt for a politician as I have for Wallace.

I'm beginning to think the Irish (collectively and especially the Irish media & polity) massively overstate our importance in Geopolitical matters.

Was always much more regarded by his team-mates and rivals than by pundits and by Irish (Leinster) rugby fans for obvious reasons. Still highly respected for his leadership role. Looks like he won't get the send-off he deserves though.
